if you mean white rice, yes thai jasmine rice is quite good. do wash the rice first as they can be quite dirty. getting rid of some of the starch is good too as it is suppose to be fluffly and in individual grains, unlike rissoto. Just put the rice in a container, fill up with water and swoosh it around a little. do it about 2-3 times to clean it up.

I'm guessing, like PixieChick, that you use a different kind of rice. The rice at the Chinese restaurant is sticky. If you use Riceland or Uncle Bens you will get fluffy separate grains. What you want in Rose rice or the jasmine rice like she mentioned. As you go grocery shopping look at what Asian people have in their baskets.

Chinese cooks frequently "wash" the rice before cooking, which involves rubbing the rice with your hands in water to remove the excess starch. This makes the rice less gummy and gives it a more distinct flavor. I prefer to keep the starch on.

Chinese rice, normally they put a bit of salt in the rice. Try it. It'll make your rice taste better. Another way to make your rice taste and smell better is to put pandan leaf when cooking.
