Can anyone who has been diagnosed with diabetes tell me the symptoms and signs they noticed before being diagnosed?

Type 1- weight lost, extreme thirst, frequent urination, no energy, cranky all the time

Type 2- similar, but not as extreme. Weight lost doesn't happen so rapidly because the bodies of type 2 diabetics are still producing insulin, just not enough to break down the food being ate.

I've had type 1 diabetes since I was 6 (I'm 25). I don't believe that type 1 is heireditary because I'm the only one who has it. Type 2 is because over-weightness generally runs in families. My family has a history of type 2. Check with your doctor immediately. If you don't, you could go into keytoacidosis (I don't know how to spell it). It is fatal if not treated quickly.

As long as you take care of your self, you will live long and happy. I've had my problems, but I'm perfectly content now.

Excessive thirst, and urinating more frequently. The urine may have a sweet odor. Tiredness. Weight loss.
Do you have any relatives with diabetes? It does seem to run in families.
You need to see your doctor right away if you think you might have diabetes. They will probably start by drawing a fasting blood sugar. Then they may do a 3 hour glucose tolerance test where you drink this super sweet concoction after fasting for the night. They draw a blood sample before you drink the stuff, and again at 1, 2, and 3 hours.
Again, if you think you might have developed diabetes, please see your doctor. Left untreated, you can run into some very serious problems - including life threatening ones.

2 years ago, I was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes. My symptoms included the following:
extreme thirst and hunger
frequent urination
lack of energy/slept more often than usual

I tried to mask my symptoms when my mom was suspecting Diabetes in fear of her being right. I was furious when she took me in, but with a blood sugar of 619, I thank her today for doing the right thing. If you are debating weather you or a loved one is a Diabetic.. type 1 or 2, don't hesitate to get into a clinic!!

For me: Type 2. I was taking Prednisone for another problem.

After two days, I was very tired, running back and forth to the bathroom, drinking/eating like there was no tomorrow, headaches, and the symptom that scared me the most: I almost lost my sight. After complaining to my mother (who's a diabetic herself), she tested me, and it read 526. I will never forget that number for as long as I live! I was so scared that my mother told me to sleep it off.

The next morning I checked myself into the hospital, and after 4 hours of being poked and prodded like a pin cushion, I was told that I was a Type 2 diabetic. Both of my parents are diabetics, my father being a Type 1. They were devastated, as was I. But now I work with it day to day. It's an uphill battle, but if you want to live, then it's a battle worth fighting.

Thirst, dry mouth, sometimes dizzyness. I have type II. I'm treating it with diet and exercise. Type I requires medication. See a doc and have a blood test done. You should test between 80 and 115 around 1-2 hours after a meal. I tested 130 after a 12 fast.
