I've just went to Longs for health screeing, I was suprised that my HBA1c = 6.2 (<6 for non diabetic) but my glucose was normal (81). I had an "one touch ultrasmart" glucose meter and I somestimes used it and the level have always been normal. I ran the glucose tests at home everyday after that (3 days) and also came back to have them check glucose level one more time and it is still normal. However, I am still worried sick because that that HBA1c that I should not take. Could someone please help me to explain my situation. Thank you very much.

This very slight elevation could be explained by numerous things like excess stress, illness, even impaired glucose tolerance (not diabetes) All of these would increases glucose levels long enough, or enough times, to elevate the A1c by 2/10.

Being a Diabetic, I'd kill to have a A1C of 6.2! If you or your doctor are concerned that it's too high for a nondiabetic, just moniter your numbers closely and visit a clinic frequently.
An answer to why your A1C is higher than you would expect for a 81 average on a home meter, is that your A1C doesn't just account for when you test your blood, it's an ongoing measurment of your blood levels..constant for 3 months. Hope I was of some help to you!
God Bless

I'm diabetic as well, and my A1C is 5.9%. The deal is your A1C is an average of how much sugar is attached to your blood cells... while you may have good sugar levels in the morning (or whenever you test), it doesn't mean they are good all the time. Try testing various times a couple of days... awakening, after breakfast, before lunch, after lunch, before supper, after supper, and at bedtime... that will give you a clearer picture of when your sugar is getting high.

That is a very slight elevation. Even if you are diabetic, only diet would be indicated. Just relax and follow up on your blood sugars periodically.
