Here is the main number....(515) 247-3121
Also I have put the only information about accommodations below.
I am sure there is a family waiting room near the cardiac intensive care unit, as there is in most hospitals. It would be best to call ahead and ask.
Staying Overnight
If you need to stay overnight, Mercy has arrangements with several Des Moines hotels close to The hospital to provide overnight accommodations for visitors and relatives of Mercy patients. The hospital also has contracted with Holiday Inn across 6th Avenue to offer discounted Mercy Hotel Rooms for patients' family members. The receptionist at the Mercy Information Desk in the Main Lobby can tell you about the hotels, including a special card Mercy visitors must present to Holiday Inn upon reserving a room. The Information Desk can be reached at (515) 643-4160.
Transportation is provided by the hotels. Mercy provides shuttle service between the Downtown Holiday Inn and the Starlite Best Western Hotel, when needed. If you have additional transportation needs from these hotels, call Mercy's Shuttle Service at (515) 247-4246.

My husband had open heart surgery 3 years ago. During that time at the hospital he had the surgery on a Monday, got out of ICU ( I had to sleep in the waiting room during this time) on Tuesday, and we stayed in his private room(we didnt ask for it either) until Friday and he was released to go home. Very frightful situation for not only him but me as well. Email if you want to chat about the changes you and him will experience with it.Because when he comes home from the hospital he will be mean for the first month!

Well, when my dad had his quintuple bypass surgery we were able to visit him in the recovery room and my mom sat there for a long time but I do not recall her being allowed to spend the night.
If you get to see him right after the operation, he will be: 1) in a lot of pain or very drugged up so as to not feel the pain, 2) very pale so don't panic! My mother almost fainted. Make sure you have someone with you.

I think you would have to ask the Dr that question. It would seem to me that you would. The presence of loved ones has a huge healing effect. But I guess the severity of his condition would have something to do with your being able to stay.
I wish the both of you all the best and a speedy recovery!

i have self assurance merely about all hospitals do enable your partnar spend the evening. i imagine in the adventure that they did not i'd by skill of a more effective wholesome!!! My partnar did, he slept in a recliner chair that grow to be in the room. and that i merely desire you to entice close that its ok now to not have your toddler in the room with you at evening because you'll need your relax. this does no longer recommend you're a nasty verify. yet you opt to get your relax once you're there. because once you bypass abode you're on your human being. The nurses were truly honest to be about this b/c I had reported i needed my son in with me the entire time. and they talked to me saying the same ingredient. That It did not recommend i grow to be going to be a nasty mom. good luck
