My cousin's doctor is away on vacation. Her earache happened as a by product of a cold which developed into bronchitis. She told me that she went to the emergency room and that they gave her some antibiotic eardrops but the pain is ten times worse since she started the drops. She has an appointment with her regular doctor next Wednesday. Is there anything she can do in the meantime to help alleviate her earache? Any medical advice would be greatly appreciated. I am also open to suggestions of valid alternative medicine including homeopathy and herbs although my cousin is more comfortable with allopathic medicine.

Before I pick the best answer, I want to thank each and every one of you for taking the time to give some very good advice. I found the most interesting cure the tobacco juice cure. I live too far away from my cousin to do that and I know that is something she would think is off the wall but I still found it a very interesting folk remedy and am curious as to how you found out about it.

I always found those ear drops to make the ear ache feel worse, but they DO help to get rid of the infection. What my old doc had me do was a few drops of warm olive oil into the aflicted ear, with a cotton ball to cover. lay on your side with that ear pointing up. if the ER did not perscribe pain killers, get the strongest over the counter pain reliever that you can. Go to your local pharmacy and ask them which would be best.

Firstly, iam not a doctor.am a medical student. From what i know...,Its hard to give any suggesting or pain alleviating advise without a physical examination. But if its comforting to know that,ITS NOT uncommon to have a increase in the earache after starting antibiotics. It would be helpful to know the name of the antibiotic and what the doctor at the emergency ward diagnosed.
On the whole, its important that she doesnt have any severe headache.IF so,she should be admitted immediately.IF so,nothing to worry about.I reapeat-am a medical student and not a certified physician and this is more a suggestion.
Hope she feels better soon.Nice,to know your cousin has someone this caring.take care.

I never understood the entire bathroom seat element. lavatories have lids. At my homestead, the strictly enforced rule is the two seat and lid are down whilst no longer in use. this is in basic terms easy experience. living on my own could be ok once you're youthful, yet i'm too old to have a great social life. So i choose some corporation at homestead.

Get a washcloth and wet it with water as hot as she can stand and have her hold it on her ear. It will ease the pain. Also, warm olive oil and put one drop in the ear and put cotton in it so it doesn't run out
