Explain to me logically how eating meat is wrong.?

Humans are omnivores. If you deny that, then don't even answer the question. Millions of other carnivores and omnivores across the planet eat meat. How is it wrong for us to do so? How is eating meat cruel, when some animals are predators and others are prey. Do you not realize how cruel and heartless nature is?

And I'm not looking for answers like, "Well...I saw this video on PETA.com...and a girlfriend of mine told me how much healthier being a vegetarian is...and aren't little rabbits so cute?" I want reason, not emotion.

Thanks all of you. But what I want to hear is how a Vegetarian can explain to me what is wrong with it. I want to hear it first hand.

Oh yeah, Bird Flu, that thing that has killed, what, 1 out of 100 people that it actually effects? That has killed something like 1000 people in the last few years.

And everything gives you cancer these days. Going outside gives you cancer. Living gives you cancer. Next week, eating anything at all will give you cancer. Besides, my family is long lived, and I don't ever really want to live to 100 anyways.

Proven? Everything that I've ever heard about the subject involved interference from outside sources. For example, a vegetarian would by defenition be watching what they eat. Your average meat eater doesn't care enough to bother. Thus, no conclusions can be made.

If there is data, I would like to see it. But I don't trust PETA. They like to misconstrue findings and take bits out of context.

Well, it pretty simply why we don't eat meat. Have you ever seen, say, a bear, gathering wood, get some flint and some steel, or even a lighter, and starting a fire, spitting his meal and cooking it? We can't digest raw meat because we haven't in the last few thousand years. Which is why our appendix's are vestigal. Leading threories say that the appendix was used to digest meat.

Excuse me, I meant it is simple why we can't eat *raw* meat.

Torture:
Torture is any act by which severe pain, whether physical or psychological, is intentionally inflicted on a person as a means of intimidation, deterrence, revenge, punishment, or information gathering. It can be used as an interrogation tactic to extract confessions. Torture is also used as a method of coercion or as a tool to control groups seen as a threat by governments.

OK, I'll concede your point castawaycp. But fortunatley for me, I practice specism. I don't think animals have any rights other than those we give them. I don't care about other species. If thats what it takes to deliver cheap beef to my table, so be it. I'll feel guilty when a cow looks at me and asks me not to eat it.

Wait, how did I have a closed mind? I asked people to explain vegetarianism to me. I'm not the type of person to ask a question just to provoke an extreme reaction. I really wanted to know.

I conceded a point to someone about the caring for of animals. I responded with, "I don't care about animals," so I am looking for someone to give me another reason. I'm beginning to see that there is little logic behind it, other than an emotional response to seeing animals being slaughtered. I'm still waiting.

I am a vegetarian, and I will tell you straight up, there is nothing morally wrong with eating meat. And I dropped it for moral reasons.

The problem isn't in the consumprion of animal flesh. The problem is the way the animals are genetically and nutritionally manipulated, neglected both physically and psychologically, and brutally killed before it becomes food.

Meat animals are not (for the most part) raised in fields, and allowed to lead complete lives. Complete lives means exceeding the minimum physical, nutritional, social, and psychological requirements of life. Not just enought food to not starve to death. I'm not saying you have to tuck your veal calves in at night and read them bedtime stories. However, it is not acceptable to confine them to crates just inches larger than their body, force them to live in their own excrement, feed them just enough that they put weight on, but keep them completely anemic to keep the meat pale. Then when they've completed their short, sad time on this earth, drag their atrophied bodies into stock trucks, cram them to the point that if they dare lay down , they'll be trampled, drag the survivors off, drive a 4 inch steel bolt through their skill and hope that they're one of the claimed 70% that will bleed out or loose consciousness in less than 10 minutes. Otherwise, they'll be slaughtered while still conscious.

THAT is what's morally wrong. Who are we to torture another creature like that? Let alone thousands upon thousands of them. No, that is not always the case. Yes, there ARE veal calves whose biggest trauma before slaughter is being separated from their mother to join the other calves elsewhere. However, they're few and far between, and it's just simpler to not eat ANY of them. And take a stand against what torture many are put through.

Besides, if nothing else, you get the chance to live a *proven* nutritionally more-healthy lifestyle.

I don't think it is wrong, as you said, we are omnivores by virtue of nature and millions of years of evolution. Some people claim that other omnivorous animals can't make ethical decisions, whereas we can. The perpetrators of this argument must therefore acknowledge that animals can't take responsibility, and therefore it is surely not right to extend to them the same rights that we enjoy to them. It is also worth noting that the most of the most intelligent animals, cats, dogs, dolphins, chimps, etc, eat meat, so we aren't talking about just the less intelligent animals who can't make moral choices, the chimp is probably the most intelligent animal out there.
There is also the argument about how the animals are treated. I can't deny that some are treated badly, maybe even the majority in some places, but I still don't think it's a particularly valid argument. Going veggie does not prevent the suffering of animals at all, the meat industry is making increasing profits currently, it just dissociated people from it; which is all well and good if you want to feel morally superior, but it doesn't actually do anything.
Then there are environmental reasons, like it takes more food to grow animals than crops, and that that food could be used to save the starving African children etc. Well in fairness, that food could be use to feed them, but, there is already enough food in the world to feed them, they just can't afford it. Stopping the production of meat wouldn't mean they suddenly would have more money with which to buy food, in fact it would probably have a negative effect as many people in Africa rely on meat production and animals for their living.

There are more reasons, but I still don't think meat is wrong.

Hm...the only reason that I have for being a vegan is that I don't want to consume another creature. I don't like the fact that an animal is born, tortured, and killed solely for my consumption. Can I ask you a question? If humans are omnivores and they are supposed to eat meat, than why can't humans consume raw meat without getting sick? Why can we only eat meat when it's cooked? All carnivores can eat raw meat...so if humans are omnivores than why can't we eat raw meat? Sorry, I just have always wondered that.

For a vegatarian the choice of not eating meat is usually made because they find that the fat and cholosteral isn't worth it is the long run. They also like the "meat is nasty" clause.

For a vegan (as well as some vegatarians), the choice is entirely an ethical one. They belive the animals are mistreated, killed in unethical ways, and then choped up by people that don't have a heart.

(If i have offended any non-carnivore by what I make of my observations, I apologize)

Well, for logic you have to have premises. If your premise is that you don't want to cause pain over a period of time to other animals, it follows that you shouldn't eat meat, milk, or eggs. If your premise is that you want the best health for yourself, then it follows that you shouldn't eat meat, milk or eggs. If your premise is that you want what is best for the health of society or the ecology, then you shouldn't eat meat, milk, or eggs. If you don't have any of these premises, I can think of no further reason not to eat meat.

I agree with you and if it is on Earth and God gave his blessing to eat all meat except pig, it is not wrong to eat meat! So let's eat!

You're looking for an answer as to why eating meat is wrong...there isn't one because it's NOT a moral issue.

As for all you vegans out there, WTF is up with this you shouldn't torture living creatures and eat them...HELLO plants are living things! Don't you think they have emotions and feel pain too!? Aren't you torturing that plant or tree!? Yeah, you don't have an answer for that, do you? Damn hypocrites. You care about all the little animals but have no problem torturing the living plant life.
