Oh, everyone needs to calm down. It'll be okay. Sometimes, people need a little time to adjust. I agree with an earlier poster that as long as you're not requiring your boyfriend to change, he'll learn to accept this.
I also agree with some other posters that PETA is probably not the best resource on which to base life changes. There are many good vegetarian websites out there.
Humans have canine teeth and were clearly meant to consume meat but I think that we Americans eat too much meat and I think that the meat we find in our grocery stores has too many chemicals and hasn't been handled in a humane way.
There are other options. Most areas of the country have local farmers that offer organic meats that come from animals who have been treated humanely.
Do what you feel is right and don't worry about anyone else. And stay off the PETA website. Unfortunately, reality isn't bad enough for those people and they tend to exaggerate and misrepresent facts.

I am a vegetarian as well, but not because I don't want to eat something that was once living, because that would be a stupid reason. Plants were once living too. I just do not like the taste of meat. I am a lacto-ova vegetarian; meaning that I still eat eggs and milk products. My boyfriend has never had a problem with me being vegetarian... he'll eat anything that tastes good! We can still go out to a lot of places together... chinese restaurants, italian restaurants. I go to burger king with him, but I just get an ice cream cone. That's not a place for me to go to otherwise. I cannot stand french fries... yuck! Many places have vegetarian food choices and if you're not expecting him to change his eating plans, then I do not see a reason for him to be upset.

Your boyfriend is right to be upset with you. First of all, vegetarianism is not any more healthy than other diets. In fact, you can't even live on it unless you follow certain very strict rules. If you can't or won't follow those rules, then vegetarianism will hurt you. If you eat correctly, then it is a good diet. However, by cutting out junk and eating good foods, a balanced diet is actually better than a vegetarian one. For more info as to what a good diet is:
http://www.gidiet.com/
The reason your boyfriend should be pissed at you is your association with PETA. These people are freaks and you should stay as far away from them as possible. Their reasons for vegetarianism revolved around being crazy. They've been associated in various criminal and terrorist acts. To see just how sick these bastards are, follow this link:

Basically, if you have decided to start hanging out with PETA, then he should dump you immediately as a lost cause.

I never had this problem b/c I am an Omnivore but it is your diet and not his. Let him know nicely that you are in responsible for your diet and he is not. I am sure there are some things you do not like about him. Also, You two can eat at the same restaurants, so that is not a problem. I personally believe people should eat meat but if you do not want to, you can still get protein from other sources such as PB and beans. You can also get other essential nutrients from other sources, you just need to do some research. More power to you for becoming a herbivore, (I could not do it b/c I love meat).

I would have to agree with him. You watch a PETA video and now you are vegan? So tell me you have no leather shoes, coats, belts, purses? Right...
Genesis 1:26 "Then God said, Let us make man in our image, in our likeness, and let them rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air, over the livestock, all over the earth, and all over the creature who move along the ground."
God gave us animals for food, clothing, shelter etc. PETA should go worry about world hunger, or global warming, or some other feel good save something project. Animals are here for us to consume. Look at what any dietician has to say, we need meat. I am an avid eat meater, I eat perfectly healthy, and I am 5'6 and 110.
Go find a better hobby and let your boyfriend eat a steak before he finds someone else who will.

Try eating fake meats, they are low in fat and some are acceptable to carnivores which would make it easier to cook for two. All the Morningstar Farms stuff is salty enough to feel like you are eating junk and every one of them is much lower in fat than it's meat counterpart. It's a real treat to eat a "meatball" sub sandwich and because of the spaghetti sauce involved, meatless meatballs a taste just like the meat type (which have breadcrumb fillers). I have used the MorningStar Farms breakfast sausage links in spaghetti and broken up on my pizza. Some of the vegan "meats" are harder to sell to the carnivores, though. Best of luck.

he might be happier to know that on top of all the benefits of being a vegetarian is that at some restaurants veggie food is cheaper...
so what if you can't eat the same things? he needs to give you a better reason for this kind of controlling behaviour

You shouldn't believe everything that PETA shows you. They use massive propaganda tactics to get people to do extreme things in the name of saving animals. Now, don't get me wrong, I love animals and feel that they should be treated fairly as we treat each other. But PETA goes to extremes in many cases. If you want to be a Vegetarian, that's up to you. Just make sure you are doing it for the reasons you want to do it.

tell you bf to f off. it's your life. you shouldn't seek his approval for decisions you make that affect your health or morals. i dated a vegetarian a few years ago. it was tough at first because it was difficult to find places we could eat together. but eventually we worked it out and scoped the places ahead of time and found menus online and things like that. being a vegetarian really isn't that big a deal and it really shouldn't cause that much friction in a relationship.

Sounds like it's time to move on. There are other fruits on the tree, my dear. Someone who is not being supportive of positive changes in your life is not worth your time. Clearly, he's afraid to look at his own not-so-good habits, and may feel threatened in his comfort level.
So translate this change onto other changes in your life that he won't be ok with... Hasta la vista, baby! :o)
