My fellow shower givers think 7 lbs is enough, I say we need 25 lbs. I was quoted a price of 140.00 including the breadsticks and they think thats too much. How do you suggest I present my argument when I have already been snapped at by one of them that they can do it for less and she plans on only making 7 lbs. The bride to be will be devastated when there isn't enough to feed everyone.

Figure 1/4 lb. of main course per person. This about an average serving. To be safe add an additional 10-15% for the food lovers. So, 90/4=22.5 lbs. 22.5+10%=close to your figure of 25 lbs. Ha!!! Woman's intuition wins again. :-)
I not know about your friend doing it with 7 lbs. she must be a Bone. This a very important time. If you getting 25 lbs. for $140 that not a bad price for something so important, even if, the Dog get 10 lbs. later. :-D

Wow - 90 people - that's a really big wedding shower. If the mostocolli/ziti casserole is the only thing you're serving (no other main dishes) then 7lbs would Not be enough. And I'm assuming you mean 7lbs of dried pasta, with several pounds of cheese and sauce added, it still will not be enough food for 90. You need to go with at least 15 or 20 pounds. Or if everyone insists on only 7 or 8 lbs of pasta, then you will definitely need other main dishes, maybe a cold cut/sandwich tray, or meatballs and sausage (perhaps both) plus some salads and good bread. Don't forget dessert. Good luck. I hope everything works out for you.

It definately is not enough. Let her make her 7 lbs and you make some thing else, a second choice main dish-there can defiantely be more than one. Maybe even 3! I would say 20+ lbs is more accurate. I know at thanksgiving they say to allow 1/2 lb of meat person, even is you cut that in half its 20+ lbs. You also never know how many 'extras' will show up! It can always go the other way and half of them not show but you can always freeze the leftovers or take to your local food bank or shelter rather than just waste it! $140 to feed 90 people a main meal is not a bad deal but 3 of you each home cook a dish and save some money.

i dont think itll be enough, considering Hamburger Helper calls for one pound of meat in the mix and it feeds 3 people (4 if you want it to be a side dish instead of the main meal). offer sandwiches (cold cuts) and possibly soups as well.
oh, and another thing, my cat weighs 7 pounds. if you look at it this way (and not be grossed out) i could not possibly feed 90 people with her. that's ridiculous. I'm sure the people getting the food ready has no idea how much 7 pounds is. really its not a lot but it does sound like a big helping. show them how big something is that weighs 7 pounds and they will see. show a cat or something in your argument and they should meet reality and see that there is no way on this earth they are going to feed that many people with just a small platter.

I normally figure 1/2 pound per guest or in your case 45 pounds. With nothing else being served but breadsticks, the 7 pounds would be gone with the first 15 or 20 people.

Mathmatically I'd say no. 16 ounces to a pound times 7 pounds would be 112 ounces total divided by 90 people means each person gets 1.24 ounces of this casserole. I'm guessing that would be less than a tablespoon.

are you talking about the same 7 lbs? you are saying prepared with breadsticks and perhaps she is talking about dried pasta. I prepare mostocholli often for crowds for 90 ppl 7 lbs dried pasta would be plenty. Its so easy to make you can make it for about $25.00. Then spend another 20 on salad and breadsticks and your finished.

No way in hell! 7pounds ain't enough! 25 pounds is only 4.44oz per person, that is not much for a main course.

Seven pounds is 112 ounces. You plan on giving everyone one plus ounce?

Then you show what one ounce looks like.

That should bolster your argument. If they turn you down, walk away.

$20 a pound for pasta salad? that's too much even for a caterer. get mom or friends to make it or do it yourself it's not gourmet!
