I'm not sure if you are the same person who asked this question the other day, and if you are, I think it sounds like your doctor does not take you seriously. You might want to visit a Pulmonologist if your regular doctor isn't answering your questions. Having been born at 25 weeks, you most likely spent time on the ventilator and C-PAP. You need to make sure you mention this to the doctor. Most likely, you also had BPD, which is scarring on the lungs from being on the vent. All of this does raise your risk for developing asthma. You should ask your parents how long you were on the vent and C-PAP and if you suffered from BPD. If they don't know or don't remember, you should try to obtain your NICU records, or at the very least, the summary discharge papers.
I think that you're better off seeing a Pulmonologist at this point. I wish you the best of luck and hope you get the answers you need.

25 weeks is very early!!!! It is soo nice to hear that you've made it - cause some preemies that early do not. It is possible that you have weak or compromised lungs because of your early arrival - before the lungs were mature. Or your suspicions may be right and you have asthma. A doctor that specializes in diseases of the lungs or an allergy doctor would be the best to see. It is possible that when you saw your family doctor that he didn't hear any wheezing at the time. Wheezing can come and go sometimes with asthma. Be sure to have your heart checked out as well. There are some heart conditions that can cause problems with coughing and chest tightening. It is always a good idea to pursue these problems - and if it turns out to be a bunch of nothing then you will have peace of mind.

I am a respiratory therapist and i deal everyday with asthma patients. Ask your doctor about a Pulmonary Function Test Pre and Post Bronchodilator. This test takes about 30 minutes to about an hour and is covered by most insurance. This test if done with a methacoline challenge will determine whether you do have asthma. If you do, take Advair 1 Puff once a day and Spiriva 1 pill once a day, and your symptoms will all be in control. Mention to the doctor about this test and these drugs. Good luck. Don't worry. Asthma is not a disease but a reversible condition. There are plenty of medicines which can help you control your symptoms.

You need to go to a Pulmonary Function Testing Laboratory, the can do 2 tests with you to see if you have asthma, and they can diagnose you very easily. The first test is a Methylcholine Challage, where they give you a drug that will induce an asthma attack, if you have asthma, you will react and then they will give you medication to reverse it, and the second is for them to test your breathing once, have you take some asthma medication, and then test you again, that one is called a Pre and Post Bronchodialator Test. I am a respiratory therapist and I do this for a living. The test are painless, just a breathing tube that going in your mouth as far as your teeth and instructions on specific breathing patterns. Good Luck!

I feel your pain. I've had asthma for 14 years now and have seen several doctors. The truth is, there is no known cure for asthma at the moment. But the symptoms can be prevented. It really depends on what causes your brother's asthma. Mine is usually dust and hot weather. But I think the universal method is using the control inhaler.
I cured my Asthma the natural way?

Preemies tend to have lung problems due to their lungs being underdeveloped at birth. The best way to be checked for Asthma is with a PFT(Pulmonary Funtion Test). Don't worry it is painless. I perform this test on a regular basis , and if done properly is a very good tool for diagnosing.

Have him check for heart conditions such as mitral valve prolapse disorder. I finally received this diagnosis after many visits to the doctor for what appeared to be asthma attacks.

My dear, I have asthma and I was full term, it is hereditary. Your mother or father had it, and so now you have it, or one of your ancestors had it and now you have it. You may have allergies and skin problems too, it comes with the territory.
