A 'seedless' watermelon actually has seeds, but they are small, white seed coats that are eaten along with the fruit .The seedless variety result from a tetraploid (female)chromosome.the black seeds are actually used for further cultivation, so the watermelon is considered ripe enough for new plantation and hence no longer known as seedless.

Because you can eat the white seeds without gastric distress afterward. There just arent watermellons grown that are truly completely seedless. I am sure eventually genetic engineering with come up with one but I think I would rather live with the white seeds.

I have no idea but isn't that crazy? Seedless cucumbers are the same way, they still have seeds. But you can easily eat the white seeds, unlike the hard black seeds.
