They want you to contact a doctor because they want you to be diagnosed. I you already are...you can take the recommended dosage for as long as you need it...every day.

Taking this drug chronically can effect the levels of acid in your stomach which can lead to digestive problems and infection.
Because it is a weaker drug, you're probably relatively safe for longer than two weeks -- they're likely telling you to contact your doctor because pepcid isn't designed to treat acid reflux -- it is designed to treat occasional heartburn. There are better drugs out there to treat what you have more effectively -- you should speak with your doctor about it, and mention that you've been taking pepcid AC.
Good luck!

I was prescribed a 30 day (2 boxes) treatment by my doctor, So I' not sure if it is really that you can't take it for more than 14 days, rather you should see a doctor because maybe it isn't working for you after that period of time, or something else maybe going on in your stomach and insides and such, maybe different medicine is warranted.

Because they figure if it's a problem that lasts more than 2 weeks, then you should see a doctor to make sure it's not something more serious, like an ulcer. You CAN keep taking it,but it's better to find out the root problem.

because it is an OTC drug they want you to see a doctor to help diagnose and put you on something a little stronger......most all acid reflux drugs cause some type of liver damage that's why they want you to see a doctor to keep an eye on your treatment and your liver
