Odds are you start at a bit above minimum wage. But in a decent bar/club on a reasonable saturday night working 10-3 you should make at LEAST 100 dolars in tips, depending on where you are. I think the number gets significantsly higher for like the really trendy places in big cities. Do people out there agree?
I think its best to have some 'school' experience...unless you know a guy, or a guy who knows a guy. Also, many schools have placement programmes.

I took a bartending class that only lasted for 4-5 days, paid $60 for it. It helps depending on where you want to work. You not only learn how to make drinks, you also learn the proper way to serve wine, proper way to lay down change (so you get more tips), names of wine glasses and what wine goes in them, etc etc etc.
It really depends where you work (city and establishment) as to how much you will be making. Generally, people that have more money are more likely to tip more.

I used to make about a thousand a week.I took really good care of my customers, I always remembered what they drank, I would bake birthday cakes when it was their Bday, I never let them get empty and I would call them to come to the bar.It was great!I think Bartending school is a waste of money, get a drink recipe book and learn the basic drinks then find a place that will train you.Good luck!!

Dude if you're a bartender and you're trying to live on your salary then you're a bad bartender. The serious money is in the tips. So, take care of your customers and they'll take care of you.
