If the records have not been destroyed, you can request a copy of them. Once a patient is deceased, their medical records become public record and confidentiality laws are more relaxed. Just contact the hospital and see if they still do have them, and if they do, request a copy.

this may no longer be possible due to the length of time since it was 27 years ago that he passed. the medical records may no longer be available. many times, medical records are only saved for a number of years based upon state statute. the physician may no longer be in practice. sorry this is not a very satisfactory answer, but you will have to seek closure some other way. perhaps speaking to a professional counselor will help. question: why did you wait so long to try to find out more about this? hope things resolve for you to at least let you move on and have peace of mind.

I'm so sorry for your loss. Why now the answers after 26 years, you'll just torment yourself all over again. The records most probably have already been destroyed, and there are also statues of limitations on all medical malpractice-why drag up something you can never get justice for, if indeed it was malpractice. God bless you!

If the agencies (facilities) have the information, you may can get a "Family Services Attorney" to help. You could ask a court for a sopena for the records.

The records will have been kept for 21 years. Sadly, they've probably been destroyed.
