The quickest and easiest way to start reducing cholesterol is to drink one to two full glasses of plain water every day before you eat breakfast. You also need to drink a LOT of plain water (NOT tea or coffee or soda) every day, the bare minimum is 8 glasses. Read "Your Body's Many Cries For Water" by Fereydoon Batmanghelidj, a book I've recently finished and found fascinating. It draws so many logical parallels between chronic dehydration and most major Western diseases. I've had this book in my library for years, but have just now gotten around to reading it. Wish I had read it earlier!

Any non-lean meat, especially sausages, have got to go. Eggs and cheese too. Eat lots of salmon to boost that HDL. Good luck. Taking statins sucks.

no red meat, lite dairy products, lots and lots of excersize, I would suggest if possible going to a class or a dietitian, it worked for me, you also have to live by the five a day rule. (Five frutis and Vegetables). Good luck.

Foods high in fat should be avoided. 171 is not that bad.
