good question, i've also wondered why many (certainly not all) vegans i know are trying to convert me, i suppose it's because they are so passionate about their beliefs, can't help but share and maybe they are also concerned for my health

Most vegans who have not been raised to that dietary habit adopt vegetarianism out of either an ethical or health motivation.
In both cases, what you have are people who have embraced a kind of ideology that involves mind and body - and comes from deep personal conviction.
What do you think motivates missionaries?
The same things.
Some folk just MUST have a "cause" of which they are SO convinced they feel REQUIRED to go out and tell the world with all the persuasion they can muster. "I have found the TRUTH! It is wonderful beyond imagining! Come, do as I do, think as I think, you, too, will own the TRUTH!"
Sometimes I feel like telling these evangelists - ALL evangelists - to go home a while and deal with their insecurities. Maybe if they did, we could all enjoy a little peace.

hey I am not vegan but I am vegetarian. Not all vegans are like that. I respect your belief for eating meat and i don't yell at other for eating meat.Like I said to some other dude, you have your belief, I have mines and they have theirs. I totally agree with you that people should push their beliefs into other but just remember that no one represents another person.

Probably for the same reason a lot of Christians shove thier beliefs down non-christians throats! It's too bad this is taking up so much of your life and energy... but by all means enjoy your bitterness ....btw not all vegans do!

Because one can't be a true environmentalist and still be eating animal products.
10 Main Reasons for going VEGAN.
1.) Animal products are unnecessary.
2.) What you eat is a learned habit.
3.) Much healthier to avoid meat and dairy products.
4.) Much more environmentally friendly to eat a vegan diet.
5.) Feed more people on a plant diet than animal based one.
6.) Using animals is incredibly cruel. Why force any pain?
7.) Religion/ spiritual reasons "Thou shalt not kill."
8.) Saves money....
9.) Reduces National debt.
10.) Vegan food tastes great!

Whenever a majority group member encounters a non-group member they feel a sense of threat. That's the fight-or-flight mechanism that is one of our (human beings) last remaining natural instincts.
As a majority group member, meat eaters in the largest consuming meat-eating country, you naturally feel a certain amount of threat by someone different, someone who has alternative views to yours. It isn't that they are in your face forcing and shoving lettuce down your throat, you are just very sensitive about your membership with the majority. So relax, live and let live, don't be a jerk about your need to consume what was once living flesh. Let people make their own choices and be good with YOURS and it's all okay! I promise!
OR, it could be that you're a closet veg and you long to come out! Pantry closet, that is. Don't be afraid, you're welcome. We will love you and cook for you and show you you don't have to be afraid of you veggie eating needs! We aren't angry non-meat-eaters AT ALL, you're just afraid of your own desires! The grains and produce are calling to you!!!! Come....come.....release your aching veg!!!!

why are meat eaters so convinced that vegans are wrong? You try to push your agenda just as much.
ps- I am a vegan and I never try to push my diet on anyone else. If they ask I won't even explain my decision at the dinner table. It is my choice, not my political agenda.

I don't see vegans on soap boxes. All I see are carnivores coming to this category giving vegetarians and vegans a hard time for their dietary choices.
Many non-meat eaters are passionate about animal cruelty, justifiably.
Eat whatever you want to, just get your facts straight.

Uuuuh. Do they? Usually it's the meat eaters who whine and complain and never try to accomodate the vegetarians or vegans.
I am vegetarian and hardly ever tell people unless they ask.
I also think pancakes are good for breakfast.
BTW- Who is the one in the vegetarian question area? I'm not over in the carnivore area complaining... think that answers your question!

We don't force our diets and beliefs on others.
Us saying 'You've got to try this great recipe - it's totally vegan!' Is like saying 'Hey, check out that new burger at -insert fast food restaurant here-'
We're entitled to our opinions, too.
