Maturity Onset Diabetes of the Young (MODY) is a form of diabetes that is genetically inhereted. Whereas most types of diabetes only have genetic inheritance as a "risk factor", MODY is more strongly inherited. MODY is similar to Type II diabetes in its severity, leading to a form of insulin deficiency. Whereas typical Type 2 diabetics are over-forty and over-weight, a MODY patient is typically in teens or twenties and is thin.

Mature Onset Diabetes of the Young

Basically, you are a young person (typically type1) with type 2 DM. This particular form is caused by a specific gene mutation that makes the insulin not work properly (whereas in regular type 2 it is caused by multiple things which do NOT usually include a known gene mutation). As for where to get more info, start with google-ing "MODY emedicine." That should get you something.

Because of an increase in obesity in children and teen, many more of them are getting diagnosed with Diabetes II, instead of it developing in their 40's like it usually does.
