At times i feel mild pain at my upper chest more so when i try to bend my neck backwards.What could it be?please help

when you said sputum did you mean in your nose? or in your chest?
sometimes allergies or weather conditions affect your airways and what happens is they constrict or close up -- and that's why you feel like you can't breathe through your nose when this occurs.
the sputum that your airways produce (either in the lungs or in your nose) is like a defense mechanism. with allergies -- your airways produce this secretions in an attempt to "flush it out", and your airways constrict so that the allergens will not go further inside.
try to see an allergy specialist and maybe he can do tests on you and point out what you are specifically allergic to and prescribe you some medicine in order to tolerate the allergen.

Maybe its a mild allergy to something in your house that you don't know about. Maybe its asthma
