Yes, it is a sexually transmitted disease.

Genital herpes is an infection of the genitals, buttocks, or anal area caused by herpes simplex virus (HSV). There are two types of HSV.

* HSV type 1 most commonly infects the mouth and lips, causing sores known as fever blisters or cold sores. It is also an important cause of sores to the genitals.
* HSV type 2 is the usual cause of genital herpes, but it also can infect the mouth.

Herpes is very contagious (the word herpes means to creep) and is passed on through skin contact with an infected person's sores or blisters. The virus will then affect the area where it enters the body, for example, if you have oral sex with someone who has a coldsore on their mouth, you are in danger of catching genital herpes. The virus can be passed on in the following ways:

Kissing.
Vaginal sex.
Oral sex.
Anal sex.
Hand transfer (e.g. masturbation).
The virus is highly infectious when sores and blisters are present, the risk of you passing the infection on or catching the infection between episodes is much lower. However, on rare occasions the virus can be passed on when no sores or blisters are present.

Yes, anal sex (as well as oral and vaginal sex) is another way to transmit the herpes virus from one person to another; however, one partner needs to have herpes in order to pass it on. The symptoms of anal herpes are the same as having herpes in any other area. For more information, read archived Alice! questions and answers,

"He would have herpes and did not learn about it because this version of herpes doesn't teach any indicators." LOL! easily not authentic. even as some people will be asymptomatic, the undeniable actuality that he KNEW he had genital herpes skill: a million) he both examined useful for genital herpes earlier, OR 2) he has had a virulent disease of genital herpes sometime interior the previous and it examined useful for HSV-2. otherwise, how would he understand he even had genital herpes interior the first position? comfortable liar! Now, IF he had HSV-a million (oral herpes/chilly sores) on his genitals that become gotten smaller for the time of oral sex with somebody else, then certain, she will contract it because HSV-a million prefers the mouth. IF she already has HSV-a million, then she will't grow to be contaminated back because she already has antibodies for it. If she does not have HSV-a million, then she will contract it performing oral sex on him. IF he actual has the different virus strand (HSV-2 genital herpes), then she will contract it, even if that's unusual for it to be transmitted to the mouth--it prefers the genitals. .

According to a new study 70% of infections were caused by viral shedding(no sores present). The old school of thought where by you would become infected only if a sore was present is finished. So even If their outbreaks are usually vaginal, any of the skin around the "boxer short" area could be infective. So any skin to skin contact in that area could result in you becoming infected. Through practicing safer sex, and suppressive therapy for the infected partner you can reduce your chances, but you will never eliminate them. Hope that helps!

I am absolutely terrified and I feel so alone. I just found out last week that I tested positive for hsv1 and 2. I have been with the same man for the past 10 years and within the last year found out that he has cheated on me with numerous women. I am so scared that I can give it to my children by kissing them and them eating with me...I feel like my whole life has changed. And even though the nurses, my doctor, and websites say that a lot of people have it I still feel like I am by myself. My self esteem has dropped and I feel like I have been used up. But now, My life is very happy.
