I sleep alright, it's getting to sleep.
I seem to have developed this "condition" where I wake up about 5-10 times right before I fall asleep, but with no air. When I wake, I have to gasp for air, but seconds later I'm almost asleep again, then It repeats.
There's no pain or anything, but I just thought maybe someone out there might be able to help.
Without me going to the dreaded doctor.

thank-you for all the great answers, but I researched about it and it usually happens when your asleep, and the other symptoms I don't have. It's BEFORE I get to sleep that the problem occurs. ANd it's not every night either, most, but not every.

I had the same problem about ten years ago and was diagnosied with sleep apnea a shortness of breath during sleep basically your body forgets to breath when you are asleep-go to the doctor and get tested for it, then they may prescripbe a c-pap--constant positive air pressure machine to hold your lungs fully open it made a world of diffrence for me, i also had the uvula operated on and removed along with my tonsils and things are much better i sleep like never before

You NEED to go to the doctor! Sounds like you have sleep apnea which untreated can be a serious problem even leading to strokes in some cases. You can get a device called CPAP which will help you to breathe correctly while asleep and get the oxygen you need. Don't wait. This is something you need treatment for.

Unfortunately that is probably a condition called sleep apnea. It means you stop breathing in your sleep. It is serious and can deprive your brain of oxygen and cause you extreme exhaustion.
This problem can be treated, but a doctor has to refer you to a sleep lab to figure out what the exact problem is an figure out what the correct treatment would be for you.
Please get to your doctor and discuss the problem asap. This is not something that can be treated at home. It is a serious condition do not wait. Get care.

Grow up and BITE the bullet---
You have Sleep Apnea.
Have your dr order a 2-part Sleep Study.
The CPAP machine is no big deal, ( I have one ) and you will see the difference in just 1 or 2 nights .
UNTREATED Sleep Apnea, can KILL YOU ....with a heart attack, low oxygen levels to the brain can cause a stroke... High blood pressure, etc.
And...someone who has UNtreated sleep apnea can have their drivers license , car tags, and car insurance revoked ! ( In the USA )

you cannot diagnose yourself over what you see on the internet or read -- i don't know why you dread going to the doctor so much, it's the only way to find out what's going on inside your body.
it does sound like sleep apnea -- it could be either obstructive or central (brain). the only way to find out is to have a test done. sleep apnea -- if left untreated can be life-threatening.
