I like an antipasta tray with sliced deli meat, cheese, baby carrots, olives, peppers, and pickles. Then just mix a little olive oil and oregano together and drizzle over the meat and veggies (not the cheese). You can serve as is or with small rolls for sandwiches.

Seven layer dip is also a huge hit depending on the type of party you are going for.

Really though, you are looking for foods that won't make a mess, are easy to eat and you don't have to worry about temperature as much. If it will be outside I stay away from dips with mayo or sour cream as they tend to spoil quickly. Then salsa and chips are a good bet. Chicken wings or strips are great, but prepare to cook them in batches so you will always have hot ones out. Also, the problem with those type of items is you have to spend so much time in the kitchen with them you don't get to enjoy your party.

My favorite thing to make if it will be a small party is grilled pizza. It is a novelty, but people really think it is something great and are really impressed with you. I usually make it as an appetizer though because it is hard to make enough to feed a large crowd. I linked to two recipes. One from scratch and one using premade dough. If you can, make the dough, people are really impressed by it and it is a great conversation starter.

OK Since this was VERY random question I will give my favorite party dish recipe that men love and unlike saying 5 bean dip or lasagna which entails recipes with measurements here you go: One package frozen meatballs (maybe 2 pounds) 1 bottle ranch dressing. Toss them up cook according to meatball directions (usually bake around 20 minutes) stir a couple of times while heating. The dressing makes this great sauce that's like a cheese sauce and pretty much your guests will have artery clogging heart attacks, which means you get to keep the rest of THEIR food...:) EVERYONE loves this; I just made it last night for the 4th!

Skyline Chili Dip

1 pkg frozen Skyline Chili
1 pkg cream cheese
1 regular size bag of shredded cheddar cheese
some minced onion (like the kind in the spice aisle)

Spread the cream cheese on the bottom of an 8x8 pan. Shake some onions all over the top. (How much depends on how much you like onions.) Cook the chili in the oven or microwave. Dump the chili over the top of the cream cheese. Sprinkle cheddar cheese over the top. Back in the oven for about 1/2 hour at around 350. Serve with tortilla chips.

Cheeseball & Crackers

1 pkg cream cheese
1 pkg Carl Budding's Beef (It's like $0.59)
Splash Worcestshire sauce
Minced onions or fresh chives

Cut the beef up in little squares and mix it up with some onions a splash of Worcestshire sauce and the cream cheese. Roll it into a ball and serve with crackers. Simple and yummy.

I would go for finger foods, particularly the mushroom umbrella canapes with cheese, basil, tomato and some minced garlic. Grilled a bit and youre sure to make your guests delighted!
