It somehow tastes like mustard but wasabi packs more punch. It will make you feel as if your head is being pressed real hard but in a sort of a good way. If you gotten too much in a bite, it will make your nose runny and your eyes watery. :)

I'm a big sushi fan, so I know all about wasabi :D. It taste kind of like horseradish (a common substitute in the US). It isn't spicey either, like many people make it sound.
The kick in wasabi comes from the fumes it releases. It travels through your sinuses, and if you get enough of it, your eyes will get very watery, your nose will get runny, your face will turn red, and you'll have a hard time breathing. I love that feeling though, I cover my sushi in the stuff (considered disrespectful at actual sushi restaurants, as it is masking the flavor of the sushi...guess that doesn't really matter).

If you are interested in trying it, you can buy a can of wasabi mix powder and just add water. They'll have it at Kroger's

It's difficult to taste wasabi because its spiciness is so overpowering, but it does have a distinct flavour which is quite pleasant. I cannot describe it, so I will assume it tastes like other forms of horseradish as other answerers have suggested.

If you enjoy the flavour of wasabi as opposed to its spiciness, try a pre-packaged product, such as wasabi coated broad beans. (Unfortunately, I cannot remember the brand name, but I can find out for you...)

It is very strong and if you overdose, it goes to your nose.

You should put just a small(very very small amount) and spread it on the sushi piece, and also to dilute the effect pour some Soya sauce.

Also there is some Wasabi Mustard that I guess would be more suitable for begginers to try w a sandwish.

♡Generally, you shouldn't taste or eat wasabi on it's own. You won't like it that way! I love hot and chili tastes, those feel hot to the tongue and mouth, but wasabi is different- it really gets 'fiery' into the sinuses! If you ever have fresh 'ground' wasabi it'll clear up your head quick! It should be used sparingly! I call it 'namida sabi' ((*^o^*) 'namida' means 'tears' in Japanese.), it sometimes brings tears to my eyes! (I live in Japan.) You'll have to be brave and taste it for yourself! Go ahead~try it!(^_-)-☆

Wasabi is pretty much unique in my experience.

Bite the bullet and try it, just a smear on a piece of Nigiri Sushi, or mixed into your soysauce with a bit of sashimi.

You'll never eat sushi or sashimi without it again !

Try it.. the spicy feeling is not in your tongue but through your nasal passage, like a nasal relieve. Try it with sushi/sashimi of course. Trying plain wasabi would be kindda weird.

You don't eat wasabi for it's flavour! It's just to add a bit of 'heat' to something..!

Make sure she only uses a little bit to spice up her food, otherwise she'll describe it as being like a volcano erupting in her skull!!!

it's basically horseradishes.

also, it's not the regular spicy that you're used to. you know how you eat peppers and it burns your tongue? well wasabi doesn't burn this way. but when you have it in your mouth, the vapors it produces get into your sinuses and burn there. you can feel it behind your nose. all the while, your tongue is just dandy. it's a crazy weird feeling.
