The plan is for Pfizer to release it widely in late July or August. Only those who were in clinical trials would have good experience using it, but I have seen/handled the inhalers. They seem very user-friendly. It will only replace your SHORT ACTING insulin. If you are on long acting insulin (Humulin-N, Novolin-N, Lantus, etc), then you still need to take shots. Long term side effects (especially in the lungs of smokers) are still somewhat of a concern to the FDA, so the drug company has to do more testing in these patients.

It is still undergoing clinical testing here in Canada.

There was a recent invitation to insulin dependent Diabetics to attend the clinical testing of this new device.
