They taste good. There is a particular drink, which I don't remember the name, that has shell-less soy beans, some green jelly, and something else too with some ice. It is a non-alcoholic drink. It is a little sweet and it tastes very good. I love the Vietnamese spring rolls.

Vietnamese food is a lot like Thai food, only spicier, usually. If you don't know what Thai food is like, well, it's sort of like Chinese food, only different. LOL!

There's one thing about eating Vietnamese food that one should know about if you're going to be eating at a Vietnamese family's house. I found this out the hard way. In Vietnamese culture when a guest is finished eating he or she will leave a little bit of uneaten food on the plate, indicating that their tummy is full and they don't want any more. This of course flies in the face of typical Western cultural etiquette where we're taught that it is impolite to NOT eat everything on your plate because then your hosts might think you don't like their food they prepared for you.

So if you're visiting someone's house who is Vietnamese, don't keep eating everything they serve you until you're so full you can't even walk any more. This happened to me in real life. They kept giving me more and more food - breaking out stuff out of their cupboard and pantry - serving their son's birthday cake (even though it wasn't his birthday until two more days)! I couldn't believe it! I kept telling them that I was full, that I didn't want anymore to eat, but of course they insisted and put stuff on my plate, which I then felt obligated to consume. And the vicious cycle just kept repeating itself. They must have thought I was like the most gluttonous, overstuffed, inconsiderate spoiled American that ever lived! I remember waddling out of their home wondering whether I was going to lose it and barf all over their front lawn before I got to my car. Later I found out about this whole etiquette business from my brother in law who had been a soldier in Vietnam in the 60s....

So don't let this happen to you!

Most people like PHO. VIetnamese beef noodle soup. Very good. If you like rice, try Ga Xao Xa Ot (steam rice with lemon grass chicken. Spicy)

Delicious if you like oriental food...
The most well known dish is Nems
The "NEMS" are similar to spring rolls...
but more delicate... First they are fried, then to eat them you put a small fresh mint leaf on them, then wrap them in a lettuce leaf (makes them easy to hold) and then you dunk them in Nuoc Nyam sauce. Yummy!
Most of the other dishes are also similar to chinese. With a slightly "different" touch. I find vietnamese food more delicate than chinese.

Pho is my favorite. It's beef noodle soup. The noodles are made from rice flour and the dish is served with thai basil and bean sprouts.
