Did the doctor give you a guideline to follow for your diet and a exercise program that would be right for you?

Eating right and exercise every day are key components that go hand in hand in the reduction of weight and maintaining healthy blood sugar levels.

Ask your doctor for some ideas in what types of exercise is right for you and your body. Not everyone is meant to exercise to Jane Fonda or do TaeBo either. Talk to your doctor first, you won't regret it.

I too suffer with diabetes. I control mine thru diet and exercise. It is do-able. Watch your starches and carbohydrates. Pick and choose your foods carefully. Change your eating habits and behaviors. Exercise in the late afternoon, when the weather isn't so hot.

Good luck and I hope I was some what helpful!

First and foremost....RELAX! :-) After doing than, get as much information that you can, both from your doctor and from diabetic support groups. Talking with people that have the disease will ease your mind and offer you many helpful ideas. I've been a diabetic for 22 years. I was diagnosed when I was 17 years old. Unfortunately, I didn't take it seriously and have paid the price. I learned the hard way the diabetes is a very serious disease, BUT it is manageable when you take control of it. I'd really enjoy talking with you about it if you would like. Experience is the best teacher. Feel free to email me or look me up on YahooIM...goateedbear2000.

Here is a five minute documentary about a group of people with diabetes that changed their diet for 30 days and are NO longer diabetic. They're also making a longer documentary with Woody Harrelson, which should be out very soon. The good news is that this type of diet prevents and reverses almost every disease or so-called dis-ease. So watch this video and tell everyone you know about it, so we can put an end to all of this needless suffering!!!

exercise is a great way, but call your doctor's office because the pills you are taking may not be enough for you. getting control as soon as possible is important so as to prevent complications. if your doctor is not good or comfortable treating diabetes, you may need to see an endocrinologist for best control. also, seeing a certified diabetes educator can provide you with a wealth of info that would be very helpful to you. do that soon, insurance should pay for. also, visit the American Diabetes Association website at http://www.diabetes.org/home.jsp good luck!

Your doctor will probably try to increase your dosage of your oral medication, as well as send you to a diabetes clinic where you will be given information on diet, exercise and glucose control. If medication, diet and exercise is not going to help you bring your levels down low enough, your doctor may recommend insulin.

Exercise should help. If you are overweight then loosing some will help. It may take your doctor a while to get the combination of drugs right enough to lower your sugar levels.

Exercise, lose weight is you are overweight. Your doctor should be helping to manage your meds to get it to a lower level. There is a lot of damage that can be done to a person's body over time w/o proper blood sugar control. Kidney disease, eye trouble, poor circulation, heart disease. Not to scare you but it is a serious disease.
