”Vegetarianism is neither bad or stupid, on a whole veggies live longer more healthier lives than their carnivourous peers.. I am all for vegetarianism. There is one small problem though and that is their farts stink.”
Reply: Yep, vegetarian’s live for 6-10 years longer than meat eaters on average. However, you are mistaken in believing that our farts stink more than meat eaters. Given the length of our digestive tracts, meat actually starts to rot before it can get passed through our system, resulting in smelly excrement and wind (to put it nicely).

“is stupid coz....its nonsese of not touching even 1 non veg item...coz ur just a vege!...all non veg eat veg...so y cant all veg eat any non veg!..id like to ask a veg that wat exactly makes a vege go far away frm meat!?....SO ITS STUPIDITY!”
Reply: What makes most vegetarians go so far away from meat is the fact that in today’s industry there is not enough time to administer painkillers, and the conditions these animals live in are horrible – so these animals die alone, often very slowly and in fear. Sometimes pigs aren’t killed properly and they are put in boiling water ALIVE, so that their skin can be softened and the hair removed. Many people don’t like the way animals are treated and so refuse to eat meat.

Reply: I’d just like to clarify one thing – I AM A VEGETARIAN!!! I am in no way saying that vegetarianism is WRONG! I’m trying to clarify WHY people often assume that vegetarians are weird/crazy/malnourished…all of that.

“There are no fresh vegetables anymore. All vegetables are grown through artificial injection of chemicals, pesticides are sprayed, hormones are injected, they are mutated blah blah. When you eat them, you're also eating a whole lot of chemicals. And organic vegetables...well, they are no good. Vegetables don't contain all the nutrients you need. And if you didn't need to eat vegetables, the forests wdnt need to be cleared for farmlands. And animals would also live happier.”
Reply: You can wash vegetables. With a good scrub, you can wash the pesticides off the skin. However, you can’t washed the hormones out from animals. They are injected with sex hormones, anti-biotics and have many cancer-causing pesticides in them – do you really want to be eating that? Meat has practically no nutritional value compared to vegetables. *to continue*

*continuing* And you are mistaken in saying that forests are being cleared to give way to vegetable crop – most of it is being cleared to raise cattle etc, who take up more room than just plain crops due to their grazing habits etc.

General comment: Ok, I’m just trying to established what all those vege-haters out there see for them to hate, and how eating meat somehow makes them superior to vegetarians. I’m not saying that everyone is like that, and I don’t mean to generalise, but the amount of people who just think that they can go about bagging vegetarians and calling them stupid and crazy is absolutely shocking. So what I’m trying to do here is to figure out WHY people have this kind of attitude – though admittedly there are many vegetarians who are just as forceful.
All of these comments are just proving to me that people who disagree with vegetarianism don't really know what they are talking about. I just thought I'd try and make it clear to vege-bashers that we're not vegetarian for no reason.

" i cannot jusitfy your statment because it is incorrect."
My point exactly - so far, no one has been able to give me a proper reason to why vegetarianism is bad. This is because there ISN'T a reason. Sure, being vegetarian is a little more inconvinient, but should that little bit of hassle be worth it if you are saving some animals and doing your body a favour?

"soy protien is not as benificial as animal protien."
Reply: Actually, soy protein isn't the only form of protein around. Animal protein sources contain a lot of undesirably saturated fat, while vegetable sources contain more beneficial complex carbohydrates and nutrience. Too much protein - ESPECIALLY animal protein, can cause people calcium to be excreted through the urin, increasing their chance of osteoporosis and kidney disease
"And the Japanese, who mainly eat seafood, have the longest life span and lowest cancer death rate in the world!!"
Reply: I think you'll find that the Japanese have the longest life spans and lowest cancer rate due to the amount of SOY they eat.

Also, most Asian countries have low heart attack rates due to the lack of meat in their diets. Sea food is another matter, as it depends on where the fish has come from.

In times of famine and war etc, the Japanese/other Asians have adopted a style of eating that includes lots of carbohydrates and very little meat. Sushi, for example consists mainly of rice and sea weed, and the dumplings that the Chinese eat have a lot of dough and not much meat - but now, of course there is more meat in the Asian diet due to Westernisation.

"1. It costs at least three times as much to get the same amount of proteins and amino acids and proteins in a vegetarian diet as it does in a meat eating diet."
Reply: This is mainly because people are eating less and less vegetables and more meat. I think that it is worse the extra cost to try and eliminate unhealthy chemicals and hormones that were meant to be fed to animals from our diet.
This means getting the same exact nutrients.
"You can survive on a vegetarian diet that costs less, but you would not be getting the same amount of amino acids and proteins."
Reply: Once again, this is not about cost. Once again I state that there is hardly anyone with a lack of protein, except for starving kids in Africa. By the time you have finished eating for the day, chances are you'll have gotten enough protein. By eating a variety of beans within four hours you will have consumed the nine essential animo acids.

"2. I like the taste of meat. I, for the most part, eat the leanest pieces of meat available and keep a balanced diet including meat."
Reply: So you like the taste of meat. Therefore it is right that you should eat it. This is the sort of attitude that parents try to discourage young children from developing. I like lollies. Therefore I can eat them. Aside from the fact that meat is bad for your health (granted, you are eating lean pieces of meat), does it not bother you that these animals are suffering, and by eating them you are promoting animal cruelty? I suppose that one could say "My life is better with slaves to do my work." but it doesn't make keeping slaves the right thing to do.

vegetarianism isn't stupid. Veganism is. You obviously are preattystupid as well because your questions border or rhetoriacal. Don't ask questions if you'r just going to add a detail arguing against others you farking hippie retard. Your question is longer than all the replies put together.

Reply: If veganism is stupid and I’m pretty stupid then you’re obviously the stupidest. Firstly, learn how to spell. Secondly, you obviously are missing the point. My additional details aren’t a question. The reason I’m arguing against people is to prove that there is nothing wrong with vegetarian, and people like you who sit about and abuse people and point out non-existent problems don’t know what they’re talking about. Thirdly, I’m not a hippie, I’m not a Greenie, and I’m not retarded. By the way, and a$$ is a donkey, not a part of the body. You need to go back to biology and learnt to tell the difference between a part of an animal and the animal itself. Fourthly, I fail to see how this ‘answer’ is actually any help, given that you have no reasons to support your argument that vegetarianism is not stupid and that veganism is. And finally – take that crystal that I put up the dolphin’s **** and shove it in your mouth. Hopefully it’s big enough to shut you up.

I could never be a vegetarian for two reasons plain and simple.
1. It costs at least three times as much to get the same amount of proteins and amino acids and proteins in a vegetarian diet as it does in a meat eating diet. This means getting the same exact nutrients. You can survive on a vegetarian diet that costs less, but you would not be getting the same amount of amino acids and proteins.
2. I like the taste of meat. I, for the most part, eat the leanest pieces of meat available and keep a balanced diet including meat.
I was raised on a farm. I have seen animals being harvested. I have also seen producers all across the country through my experiences in college. I have still made the choice to eat meat because I have not seen abuse and I like the taste. Producers, like most people in this world, are in a business to make money and if the welfare of their animals is poor they do not make money. At the same time I respect those who choose to not eat meat. That is your choose and you have a right to it. Yes my mother did give me the freedom to eat meat or to not eat meat. I can ensure I was not allowed to do anything I wanted just because I liked it. I have a sister that eats very little meat if any. She has a very hard time finding things that don't have some kind of meat product that she can afford as a college student. Occasionally she has to have soup with chicken stock or others food with meat products. She chooses not to eat meat because she doesn't like the taste and therefore can deal with eating a little bit of meat if the taste suits her. I only bring this up because if she truly wanted to be a vegetarian I doubt she could afford it. If you choose to be a vegetarian and are willing to pay extra for it then go ahead, but it's not for me.

I don't think it is bad or stupid. If people choose that then that is up to them. However, I am really surprised at how many people actually think it is better to be a vegetarian. Some may live longer but I know more anaemic vegetarians than omnivores. That is because they are not getting all of the correct nutrition they need.
We are designed to eat both meat and vegetables. Animals are there for our consumption. Yes I agree that the animals shouldn't be treated badly, etc. but that is why so many people, such as myself, try to get only natural and free range products.
I have seen so many people who are unhealthily underweight because they have convinced themselves that a vegetarian or vegan diet is better. If I have a choice of living for a few extra years but having to be ill for so much of it, or having a balanced diet and dying a couple of years earlier, I would pick the latter.

It is VERY foolish. Being a vegetarian is a waste of time and body. Your body needs protien, as everyone knows, and sure, there's soy protien, but soy protien is not as benificial as animal protien. That means you pretty much NEED meat, eggs, dairy, seafood, etc. But you still can be fit, just eat poultry and seafood, and buffalo. Buffalo is organic, and by federal law, cannot be shot up with steroids, preservatives, or other rubbish like that. And the Japanese, who mainly eat seafood, have the longest life span and lowest cancer death rate in the world!! The bottom line- Vegetarianism isnt the best option in nutrition.

No, it is not stupid and a vegetarian diet does prolong life. With beans being a major part of the diet it can get a bit smelly. Lots of fresh vegetables, particularly broccoli are digested very quickly leading to wind.
I dont think meat eaters smell that great as meat rots and takes so long to metabolize.
Nice try, I'm with you....
