well sometimes it might be a few days. depending on the type of test or STD you can find out right then. but i must warn you just because a test says negative doesn't mean you are in the clear if you had sex with someone who had or had an STD some take up to 7 yrs before showing signs of the STD.
Please go get test at least once a month and depending on the STD will determine how long you need to be tested
STD's are serious some can be cured but most cant
if you think you might be infected then use a condom for your partners protection

At the health department where I work, I've seen turn arounds in 3 days for some tests. It depends on the lab which does the results. If your test is negative, you will usually not receive a phone call from the health department investigator, only if your test is positive. Syphillis, GC, Chlamydia and HIV are reportable by law to the County Health Department where the person lives.

other stds usually can be determined at the doctors office same day
