I'm on 1 gram a day Valtrex and wondering if alcohol will either reduce the effectiveness of the drug or increase the possibilty of liver problems.

Alcohol is fine to take with Valtrex, it will not affect the medicine. Alcohol alone will cause liver damage especially excessive amounts. But both should be okay together. If you ever have any questions like this a good person to ask is a pharmacist. Any local Walgreens, Osco, Walmart will do. After all that is what their career is all about...medicine.

It is always dangerous to mix alcohol with a drug. You should talk to your doctor about this

I don;t know this factually, but my doctor said it was OK. I was on 3ml a day for Shingles (AKA adult chicken pox). I drank almost every day a week with no problems.

No it can cause severe swelling in the abnoids

Its not safe to drink alcohol on any medication unless you clear it with your pharmacist first.
