Self hatred and lashing out at others which is a severe anger stage of grieving (the loss of their health). Many people don't even know they have an STD. Some people are grieving over a lover that died from AIDS and become promiscuous in hopes they will get the disease so they can die (perhaps because of intense sadness or depression) Others believe they can tell if someone has an STD because they have stereo-typed what type of person has an STD. Some people actually don't have a normal conscious ie a socio-pathic personality disorder and do not feel guilt..Some people inflict themselves with different detrimental acts to get medical attention for the secondary gain (attention, care, sympathy) If severe and repetitive, it's called Munchhausen syndrome.Protect yourself and teach others by example. The world is full of diverse people. I think I understand your frustration.

At this time in America teenage sexual relationships is at a high. this is one factor that led to the increase in STD's as well. Many other factors come to play too such as misinformation, ignorance, embarrasment, instinct, fear, etc. not all states allow sex ed to be taught leading to people who do not know what sex is and the consequences of certain actions.
Unsafe sex can result when they do not wish to use any contraceptives because of the fact that they do not know about them, hear rumors about them such as loss in sexual performance (which is most likely untrue), or are just embarrassed/afraid to buy them.
There is not just one reason why this is happening and any answer may be correct in some way.

Because for some people, the risk is part of the thrill. The temporary additional pleasure is worth the possibility of future suffering to them. Or ignorance... people are stupid.

I know that amongst gay men, they form groups that seek out men with AIDs and ask them to give the the "Gift" and have unprotected sex with them. They feel that eventually they will get AIDs anyways, so they want to choose who gives it to them. However, they are completely wrong, selfish, and ignorant. Use a comdom, save a life, yours included. And also this is a small percent of gay men. Its not the whole community.

they could've gone through something horrible, and don't care whether they die or not. they might also not know the dangers of std's and think the sex is worth it.
