TB is highly contagious, and if a person gets TB and it is not cured it is often fatal. The new and real threat is called MDR TB, or Multiple Drug Resistant TB. In this form there are few or no antibotics that will attack the bacteria and death is the usual outcome.

Schools do innoculate all children for TB nationwide, the vaccination is called the BCG. If it didn't happen in your area (sounds like it didn't), then your local health authority has some serious questions to answer for.

[EDIT] I was so surprised to hear there was no BCG in your area that I did some research and it seems that the old BCG programme I was referring to has been changed. As of September 2005 only those most at risk are vaccinated. If there are outbreaks happening everywhere as a result I'm sure they'll go back to the old programme soon.

TB could have diff rent forms.pulmonary Tb is tb of the lungs, pleural tb is tb of the lung covering.we can have dissiminated tb when more than 2 organs are involved.tb of lymph nodes,tb of the skin ,tb of the bone.tb of the menings...
if we are talking of pulmonary tbc the trasmission is diffrent from the others and needs strong intervention.transmission is by inhaling droplets from infected person.the person should be isolated, his feeding matrerials should be separeted and he should get proper treatment & FOLLOW UP.The government should work strogly to do active detection of cases and isolate them and treate them appropriately.if PPDtest is available it should be done & those who have positve result should get treatment.(this approach will not help in areas where tbc is commen becase most peoplewill be positive.)the govenment also should concider BCG vaccination at birth.don' t also forget the issue of hiv/aids since the association 50%,but we shold carefully interprate this suggestion and more over it is always good to screen.

if not treated and diagnosed immediately, it can be fatal. however medical treatment of TB usually includes isolation of the patient for about 2 years (think 2 years in the hospital -- whew) and taking a series of medications to cure it. there are cases wherein the patient has survived of course -- immediate attention and actions are very vital.

TB is very dangerous & highly contagious. If your daughter has it then you and anyone else that is around her needs to wear a mask. You can catch it from nose droppings.
