The best NATURAL answer to Diabetes is Bitter Melon.
This vegetable is available in all Philipino markets. I think some Indian grocery shops also have this vegetable.
Wash the vegetable and eat it raw - about half the vegetable per day and check your sugar level after about 4 days - you will see the difference. Of course I must warn you that the taste of it is very unpleasant. Once you know that it is good for you you will come to like it.
I know a person who was injecting insulin daily stopped it after his wife started to crush the vegetable and made him to drink a half cup of this juice daily.
Of course you have to have it raw. Boiling it or cooking it and eating it will have no results.
If you get good results post it as a question in this section so that others will know the value of this vegetable.

My mom had uncontrolled diabetes. I found one of the best additives to her diet was strawberries. Apparently, the high fiber content offset the rest of the meal, leveling out her blood sugars. I heard that a study is being conducted to investigate the use of strawberries in controlling diabetes.

Whole foods.....but you should see a nutritionist to get a good meal plan.
The best meal plan for me is:
Breakfast: Apple & Cheese
AM Snack: 5 Whole Wheat Crackers and Cheese
Lunch: Lean Cuisine (no more than 30 grams of carbs, around 10 grams of protein and low fat)
PM Snack: Apple & Cheese or Crackers and Cheese
Dinner: 8 oz portion of chicken, pork or beef, vegetables and brown rice
Bedtime Snack: 3 squares of graham crackers
But it gets old, so have a diet made for you with some choices and have it based on your weight and weight goals. And include exercise.

Diabetics can eat anything that anyone else can. But, when it comes to sugar items (candy, etc), it has to be in light moderation. We don't have to deprive ourselves all the time just because we are diabetics. I went to classes for it (been a diabetic for 39 years) a few years ago. The people there told us that it really isn't worth it to get sugar free candy, that it's a waste of money. Sugar free candy has sorbitol in it and many have sugar alcohol Sorbitol is a laxative (many can't even eat a full serving without having to run to the bathroom). Sugar alcohol is a sugar. So, why deprive yourself of the taste of the real thing? Just don't have it daily/all the time.
Fruits and vegetables, high grains, low sugar, high lean proteins are all good foods for anyone. Just beware that fruits, juices, etc, have high amounts of sugar (fruits have natural sugars). Everything but water has sugar, so you really can't get away from it. Try to eat whole wheat breads, pastas, etc.
It's just a matter of finding out what foods raise your blood sugar more than others and how much meds/insulin you need to cover those foods.
