Women seem to like salad.
Here's 2 great refreshing recipes that is filling and not expensive.
I modified the menu to feed 20

CHICKEN SPINACH SALAD
14 bunch fresh spinach washed and dried, or cheat and get 10 pkg of the prewashed ones at the market
10 chicken- boneless breast, grilled or boiled, then diced and chilled.
10 cup dried cranberries
10 cup chopped pecans or walnuts or both.
5 cup sunflower seeds, or put on side
10 cup feta cheese
any viniagrette dressing

Mix ingredients together and add dressing right before serving. Best serve chilled. Goes great with a glass of iced tea!

MEXICAN CABBAGE SALAD
10 cabbage, finely sliced
12 avocado, ripe, peeled and diced
12 bunch cilantro/coriander, finely diced
10 large tomato diced
5 c diced celery
5 c brown onion, diced
5 fresh jalapenos, seeds removed then diced
Mayo
salt/pepper to taste

Add the cabbage, then the cilantro, tomato, celery / onion, jalapeno and a dash of salt/pepper.
Add the avocado then 2 -3 cup of mayo or just enough to moisten to your taste. Mix well.

Chill for 1 hour and serve cold

Serve the above with bread and beverage.
You can substitute the chicken in the salad for grilled chicken on the side, and then use the salad by itself without meat.

It doesn't matter what you want to cook. The best way to make sure that you have a great dinner is 'preparation'. Try to get as much as you can prepared the day before and during the day. This will enable you to spend time with your guests, that's why you invited them right? Try to prepare simple things, like salads that can be assembled at the last minute, soups are always easy to prepare in advance, casseroles or stews are easily prepared before hand and simply served with rice. Make it easy for yourself! If you start with good food and give it a little love and passion, you will have a great dinner party.
Good luck.

excuse me, women only, dude, i made spaghetti for over 70 people, its easy, if you cook your sauce all day on a simmer, it will taste the best, and actually even better, cook it the day before, let it sit in the frige overnight, this will help merge all the flavors,, then heat it up(it alsways tastes better the second day), do some garlic bread and salad, easy, not real expensive, and u can get premade garlic bread if you want to be quick about it

or grilled food, chicken steak burgers, 16 isnt a whole lot, u can get premade burgers, steak only takes about 10 to 15 minutes tops! to cook, again, salad is cheap and easy

try a stew or soup, cook it the day before with a slow cooker(crock pot) just get a recipie and make tons

Homemade Chili, crackers, cheese,Sour cream,Scallions, green onions. Tortilla chips. Salad. easy to fix and fun to eat.
Buy a block of cheese (mild cheddar) or (Colby Jack) cut in 1/2 inch cubes and also offer a bowl full of "Shredded Cheese". You may also want to offer some Jalapeno peppers sliced and ready to add to the Chili. And maybe some Black Olives. Any way it is a good Crowd pleaser.. Good Luck and God Bless.

Chicken Chablis- S/P and dredge boneless chicken breasts, saute' slowly in butter and add fresh sliced mushrooms at the last minute. Pour in some Chablis wine, simmer until bubbly, finish in oven at 350. Five minutes before it is finished top with swiss cheese. Serve with salad and wild rice. Chilled steamed pears with pureed raspberries for dessert, do this the day before. Very simple and your guests will think you cooked all day.

For lots of fun, make an Indonesian Rijsttafel or "rice table". The foundation is curry, and of course rice. You can make a couple of different kinds of curry if you wish, maybe one with prawns and one with chicken? Then the fun is in all the condiments you pass around for everyone to top their curries with: chutneys, chopped peanuts and cashews, toasted coconut, raisins, chopped hard boiled egg, fresh mangoes, sliced green onions, pickled vegetables, chopped mint or cilantro... you get the idea. Serve with a good dry white wine and it makes one heck of a party.
