Yes it can be true. Each person's vitamin needs are different. Some people need more of one vitamin than another. Vitamins are to supplement a healthy diet not make up for a bad one. When i became a vegetarian more than ten years ago eventually I came across a book by Dr. Andrew Weil M.D. It is an excellent book called Eating Well For Optimum Health. It explains everything from vitamins to overcoming allergies. Dr Andrew Weil is a graduate of Harvard College and Harvard Medical School and is a clinical Professor of Medicine. His web site is www.drweil.com

One a Day® vitamins are like any other brand of vitamins; a supplement to make sure you get the nutrients you need that are missing from your food diet. If you ate all the recommended daily allowances of foods each day, you wouldn't need to take a vitamin supplement. They aren't meant to replace food, but they do benefit your body when you are missing nutrients from your food. With the amount of chemicals and processing of prepared foods today, getting the extra nutrition from vitamin supplements is necessary.

Half these people are idiots. The rda allowance is what it takes to get the minimum amount of that vitamin or mineral to keep from being sick basically. For optimum health you need larger quantities of said vitamins.I take a high potency multi-vitamin and notice the difference in the way I feel within a week if I stop.My advice take one for optimum health.

yep u just pee out the vitamins. people just like to take them because it makes them think its helping their body so they dont feel bad about smoking or eating or drinking too much. and no even if u take vitamins u still need the calories from a meal and water in ur system to keep ur body going. vitamins have no calories. although vitamin E is great for ur hair, skin and nails i must say.

Nope, eating also provides many nutrients (i.e. fat, sodium, "good cholesterol", etc.) that are not in the pills. Also the pills do not contain calories, the basis for your bodies energy system. So although the pills do provide you with many of the essential vitamins and minerals that you need, it is only a safety net and cannot substitute eating.

Right, a balanced diet is enough, vitamins aren't cheap and a waste of time unless you are seriously lacking in something.

I heard a followup on that. It went something along the lines that if you have a really bad diet (most people do) then they may be of some help. I eat a lot of vegies, and think I have a pretty well rounded diet. I quit taking them when I heard that.

Wrong. You get your daily RDA of vitamins (and minerals if you take that kind), but you don't get fuel for energy and growth. You have to eat to absorb those nutrients.
