The difference between a vegan and a vegetarian is simple. If you just do not eat meat, then you are a vegetarian. If you don't have anything to do with dead animals(leather, eggs, milk, and so on),you are a vegan. There are also a lot of different types of both things, like people who just don't eat red meat or people who just do not wear leather.
I hope I helped!

There are many different types of vegetarian.
Vegetarians do not eat meat of any kind (this includes fish and poultry). Nor do they eat abattoir by-products such as gelatine or rennet.
Lacto-ovo-vegetarians will eat dairy and eggs (and usually honey) in addition to plant-based foods.
Lacto-veggies will eat dairy (and usually honey).
Ovo-veggies will eat eggs (and usually honey).
Strict vegetarians only eat plant-based foods, such as fruit, vegetables, nuts, seeds, mushrooms and grains.
Vegans are strict vegetarians who also avoid animal products in day-to-day life. That means no leather shoes or woolly jumpers! However, it is almost impossible to be totally animal-free, as even roads are made with animal material in many countries. Veganism is not about being perfect; it's about reducing animal suffering as much as possible.
People become vegetarian for many different reasons. Some believe it's a healthier way of eating. Some think it's immoral to kill animals for pleasure. Some argue that raising livestock is a waste of resources and harmful to the environment. And some just don't like the taste of meat!

Vegan is a more severe or strict vegetarian and will not consume any products from animals not just meat products. Vegans tend to be more passionate about the use of animals for food. (at least that's been my experience)

A vegetarian is only that you do not eat meat or poultry or meat products or fish. Vegans do not consume anything that comes from any type of animal, no dairy or nothing.

Veganism is a philosophy and lifestyle which "seeks to exclude — as far as is possible and practical — all forms of exploitation of, and cruelty to, animals for food, clothing or any other purpose; and by extension, promotes the development and use of animal-free alternatives for the benefit of humans, animals and the environment."[4] In practice, this translates largely to the abstention from consumption or use of all animal products, including eggs and dairy products, as well as articles made of bone, leather, feathers, mother of pearl or other materials of animal origin. Vegans are also likely to avoid products that have been tested on animals. People who avoid eating all animal products, but who otherwise use animal byproducts (for example, by wearing leather shoes) are commonly referred to as dietary vegans.
Vegetarianism is the practice of not eating meat, including beef, poultry, fish, and their by-products, with or without the use of dairy products or eggs. The exclusion may also extend to products derived from animal carcasses, such as lard, tallow, gelatin, rennet and cochineal. Some who follow the diet also choose to refrain from wearing clothing that involves the death of animals, such as leather, silk, fur and many down feathers. While most vegetarians consume dairy products, veganism is a stricter form which excludes dairy, eggs, and any foods that contain these or other animal products. Still stricter is fruitarianism, which excludes all food but the botanic fruits of plants.

nada.. they are the same.. Why be a vegan? Well, I am thinking about it myself.. I just HATE to see animals killed. Actually, I eat nothing in the meat line anyway except chicken, turkey, fish... I have not had red meat for a long long time... so I am almost a vegan...
