I am going with my family to New Zealand, South Island in December this year. I am thinking of taking one of the tours from the net. Opinions differ from Queenstown being the best place in the hemisphere to one big rip off. Any tips to make the best of my one week holiday?

We are staying at Queenstown and could go to any of the 4 major resorts near there. Also, does anyone have any experience with glacier skiing in New Zealand. How advanced a skier does one need to be?

Hello all,
When I went to Ruapehu a few years ago, if you had a 4wd you didn't need snow chains, if you didn't you had to hire them for your 2wd car. Do you know if this applies to Cardrona? I've heard a rumour that if they require them of you, you need to use them irrespective of whether your car is a 4wd or not.
