think about the role geography plays in defining our cultures. the historic ones, the ancient ones, the powerful and the weak. where they lived dictated to a large degree who they traded with, interacted with, and conquered. even in today's global market, there are still marked cultural differences among the four points on the compass.

considering beliefs, languages, inventions and conventions, do you believe the diversity of cultures increases depending on their LONGITUDE with respect to each other, or their LATITUDE? give examples, how they differ, how they're similar.

I'm writing a small essay on the unique city of Venice, Italy. One of the biggest things I liked about it was the fact that they had rivers running through the city where you can get gondala rides in. What's the proper way of saying "the rivers run through the city" is there a word for that kind of water? and what do you call the man who rows the boat on the Gondala rides?
