think about the role geography plays in defining our cultures. the historic ones, the ancient ones, the powerful and the weak. where they lived dictated to a large degree who they traded with, interacted with, and conquered. even in today's global market, there are still marked cultural differences among the four points on the compass.

considering beliefs, languages, inventions and conventions, do you believe the diversity of cultures increases depending on their LONGITUDE with respect to each other, or their LATITUDE? give examples, how they differ, how they're similar.

The answer is latitude.Weather changes are pronounced if you cross latitudes. This weather change brings about changes in food habits and dress. The design of the house where we live in also somtimes changes(example:-igloo in arctic). The three important things for a man to live are food, cloth and a place to live in.All the three change with weather.Even within a country, we talk about " north-south divide" and not "east-west divide".So latitude plays an important part in cultural division.

This question is complicated and I would think the only way to think about it in terms of where one was born.Having been born in England and looking at an atlas I see that there is nothing above me and France, Spain and the northern part of Africa below me.It seems therefore that I must have a much greater affinity with those on differing lines of latitude than those on differing lines of longitude who are physically and culturally completely different. If you want to consider inventions then the question makes little sense as , until relatively recently, only Europe with a bow to the Egyptians and Babylonians, have contributed to the progress of mankind.

I would just check to see how quickly the culture changes, and from the UK, I think that west North America is the same, east at least for a few countries we are not all that different. Then north, not much difference, and south it does not get interesting until you hit the south of Spain, and North Africa. So I think that it is not about latitude or longitude, but about how far from Europe, and America you can get!

there is no true answer. there are just as many cultures per country going latitudally as there are countries longitudally. and besides, if you want a whole global answer, they are the same.
