I don't think so. I think the taxes covering negative external costs of fatty food products should be imposed on the demerit food products themselves, such as Fast food. It's like cigarettes, the tax comes from the actual sale of the product... not just from the consumer's pocket... this will encourage healthier eating. People say "I'm not fat but what if I want a cheeseburger, why should I pay tax"... that's just silly, what about if a non-smoker wants to buy a pack of cigarettes, should they pay no tax?
