I would rather have snakes. Rats as a rule are dirty and eat through your walls. So I'll take snakes.

Probably a rat. When my parents divorced my father let me get a pet rat to take home. Her name was Candy. And I just luuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuved that rat. It really meant a lot to me, especially because my dear, loving, thoughtful, hero, my dad had so kindly purchased it just for me. I was 'special' ya know. So, I took it home to my mother and her new hubby, and low and behold the sh!t hit the fan (Circle Jerks, ya ever hear of 'em??) and we all ducked for goodness sake. Turns out that rats were "nasty" creatures that my mom and step-father could not comprehend nor fathom why on earth their little girl was walking around the house with, of all things, a rat on her shoulder!! hhhhhhhmmmmmmm....I wonder why my angelic father would've done that? That's what that sh!t eating grin was about all through the pet store. Lucky me. aaaaaawwwwweeeeee, ignored once again! Boo-Hoo, right? Anyway to make a short answer long, I came home one day from school only to find my precious Candy stiff in her cage. Apparently, Candy had eaten some of my poisonous bedspread and died. So, I threw her out. But guess who had to keep sleeping with the poisonous blanket? That's right....IT WAS ME!! Wow, where was I?? And they wonder why I was a strange little girl. Go figure!!! HeeHeeHee!

Snakes! I cannot think of one single benefit to having rats. Plus their fleas carry some diseases.

I'd rather snakes.
They are easier to control and they are nice and clean and NOT slimey like most people think. And they don't eat much and usually they stay in ONE place for a long period at a time.

Preferably neither, but if I was made to choose, I'd probably go with rats.
