I don't think so. I think the taxes covering negative external costs of fatty food products should be imposed on the demerit food products themselves, such as Fast food. It's like cigarettes, the tax comes from the actual sale of the product... not just from the consumer's pocket... this will encourage healthier eating. People say "I'm not fat but what if I want a cheeseburger, why should I pay tax"... that's just silly, what about if a non-smoker wants to buy a pack of cigarettes, should they pay no tax?

Yes. And people who smoke, drink alcohol and too much soda, and people who participate in unprotected sex, and people who drive unsafe. People who don't wear helmets on bikes and motorcycles. People who eat seafood (heavy metals). People who run with scissors in their hands....have I left anyone out?

I'm not fat but why are you picking on them? Obesity is hereditary, maybe these people can't help it. Maybe they are trying to loose weight. So they have a problem. Can I pick on you for your problems?
