I bought a new bass guitar recently from ebay for cheap and when i tried to tune it, every string rattled when played. I raised the bridge as far as it goes and it still rattles. Help!

I heard a song I liked on the radio about two months ago. The website for the station didn't have a previously played list and I thought, "Damn. Now I'll never know the song!" Now I'm depending on you Yahoo! users. I'm almost completely certain the song was from the 80's. It seemed very much like techno and electronica with spacey sound effects. The BPM was probably around125. And there weren't that many vocals and I think it was a male voice. He wasn't singing, but he wasn't really singing either. Like, there wasn't a note long enough to show if he could actually sing. This is all I know. So.. Anyone got any ideas?
