I bought a new bass guitar recently from ebay for cheap and when i tried to tune it, every string rattled when played. I raised the bridge as far as it goes and it still rattles. Help!

It sounds like your neck is possibly warped. If you've never adjusted a neck before, DON'T,! Take it to a repairman and chances are he can have it straightened out very soon. If you break the truss rod trying to adjust it, you ruin the neck. Good luck.

Sounds like you may need a truss rod adjustment. I don`t recommend doing it yourself unless you`re familiar with the procedure, but hey, I learned by doing :-).

Hold your bass with the body on the floor, the headstock pointed up at your head. Look down the edge of the neck, and you will see the curve of the neck relative to the strings. You`ll most likely see that it`s "bent backwards", or bowed closer to the strings in the middle, between the 10th and 15th frets or so. That`s not good...you want it slightly the opposite, or bowed slightly away from the strings (flat is ideal, but unless you have a perfect fret dress you will buzz with a perfectly flat neck). Use an allen wrench and turn the truss rod 1/8 of a turn counterclockwise. Play the instrument for a minute and take another look down the neck. Keep adjusting in 1/8 turn increments until you have a very slight relief in the neck, bowing it ever so slightly away from the strings. That should fix your rattling unless the neck is warped, in which case there`s little you can do with home repairs.

Hope that helps!
