I think this song represents how far a man is willing to go to show the one he loves how he truly feels....
By "Changing the World" he is wishing for one moment for things to be different, then he would finally have the opportunity to be with her..and in this world of make believe he has created, he is fantasizing about how things would be if that dream were to become a reality...

It means to literally change the world. Her loves her so much that all the beauty of his love is hidden inside but if he could change the world and have it go his way it would be to show her his love and intentions to whatever it took to please her.(he would give her a star from the sky) if he could.If I could change the world I'd make everyone get along, he would make it so he could give her a beautiful sparkling star from the sky.He would do this to....

Its a fresh take on the common theme of unrequited love. It means that you mean everything to me, yet, you don't love me back. But if I could make one tiny change in this universe, it would be so that you'd be really, really into me. Now, I've got to go listen.

Is that the one he wrote after his son died from falling from a window? If so, I guess the song makes perfect sense.
