I am a NRI and bought a property in India by availing a home loan from India. I pay regular mortgage payments to this loan. I have rented this property now and I get rental income.

Given that I am a NRI, what are my options ?

1. Should I file a tax return in India for my rental income ? Can I deduct the mortgage interest in my tax return ?

2. Can I file the tax returns in USA instead ?

What are the benefits of both approaches ?

Lets say I have a fixed deposit worth 50,000 USD in USA which I bring back to India while I leave my NRI status and become a resident. This is money earned abroad while being a NRI, so does this needs to be taxed as well?

Recently, my mom returned to India and I gave her some $$$ so she could put it in a bank in India and get some interest for her expenses. Now she is having trouble at the banks because they are writing down the number on each and every bill. Is this a bad thing or a normal proceedure? They are also asking her the source of the income. She does not want to pay income tax on the amount. What is the best way to handle this situation?

I am thinking of buying a home in India by availing a mortgage in an Indian Bank. I live here in USA. Is my mortgage interest deductible when I file my taxes in USA. This is my second home. I already own my primary home in USA.

Dear Viewer,
As in advertising seen govt. is asking to pay all taxes honestly to so we get nourish facility from them but are we getting honest response from govt. we are stll paying all bills like electricity , water, house, road taxes, transport tickets, etc.etc. so why govt need more taxes from us. if their facility r in losses its their management failure. we used to give bribe or extra amount to all govt employer like police, health, muncipal etc.. for our work or for taking govt. facility as they claimed in favour of our taxes and still we r paying taxes. in department of juducial we used to buy stamp papers. if we get any thing free its a long procdure after expenditure of our precious time. so i think we r not getting any facility in favour of our taxes.
Regarding subsidy its used to be blackmarketing on goods or subsidy is giving to poor people(its another thing they didnt received)who r not payingtaxes THINK!

I am working with a private limited company since February 2006. Due to reasons alien to me the company has not deducted income tax from my salary so far. Through a chartered accountant i paid advance tax in the month of December after calculating the tax based on my salary income and investments. The logic behind the payment of advance tax was to avoid any interest accrued for the accumulated tax and to avoid heavy tax cut during Jan-Mar. But to my surprise and dismay, the company refuses to accept the advance tax citing that they cant accept tax paid outside of TDS.

In this context,
1) Is the company within their rights in not accepting my advance tax paid receipts?
2) Does a citizen need to pay advance tax (in accordance with the deadlines issued by the IT dept) in case of salary issuing company not deducting the tax at source?
3) Are there any specific guidelines for TDS by which the heavy tax cut during the last 2-3 months by the company is prevented?
