It's an omnivore. This particular type of omnivore only eats fish of all of the meats. It has nothing to do with vegetarianism as Meg and her alter-egos attempt to pass off.

I am a former chef and term myself as a lacto-ovo-pescatarianand I have one question to some who said it is not a vegetarian lifestyle term, I am not an expert, but who wrote the book on Vegetarianism and are there offical rules to how and who can be one, is it like club??

You can call yourself anything you want, and for some one who does not eat meat and considers there diet as veggie and only eats fish. There is no one who can tell you what is right or wrong you make that decision, it is not written in the U.S constitution or the other state laws, and PETA has not legal jurisdiction in my words, I will continue to used the terms I do about my dietary choices, I do this for medical reasons, as a chef I have eaten everything from A-Z meat, fish and veg.

Well, a vegetarian doesn't eat seafood, by definition. But yes, a pescetarian is someone who *would* be vegetarian, except for the fact that they eat seafood.

To David H: it doesn't matter who "wrote the book" on vegetarianism, but it does matter who coined and defined the word "vegetarian." Google the Vegetarian Society and look at their definition - it really IS their word, after all, and has been since the 1840s.

Yes, it is a vegetarian whose diet contains seafood or fish. Japanese are pescatarians and have the healithies diet and greatest longevity. The new emerging word for vegetarians whose meat consumption ... usually fish, seafood, or poultry that comprises 10-30% of their diet is "flexitarian".

"Strict" or "true" vegetarians eat no animal products, but they are by no means the only vegetarians . .. except in their own minds...that thought being confined to westerners but not by other cultures.

For further information Google "flexitarian" or "flexitarian diets".

Pescetarian is a cutesy term for an omnivore who only eats fish meat, as opposed to all meats.

A pescetarian is someone who does not eat meat from any land animal, only eating fish and seafood.

A pescetarian is not a type of vegetarian; it's important to remember that because many pescetarians go around calling themselves vegetarian, which spreads the myth that vegetarians eat fish (which leads vegetarians into awkward situations in restaurants or with friends).

A pescetarian diet has a lot of benefits - it's very healthy, similar to the traditional Mediterranian diet; it saves land animals from suffering and death, and it means you aren't contributing to the deforestation, water wastage and greenhouse emissions of the meat industry.

Are you thinking of becoming pescetarian? I'd say go for it! Unfortunately there are some vegetarians and vegans around with a hardline "all or nothing" stance - but don't let it worry you. Labels are there for convenience, not as a status symbol. You don't have to be a vegetarian to do really good things for your health, animals and the environment!

Nothing; pescatarian is not a word.

Definition: Occasionally used to describe those who abstain from eating all meat and animal flesh with the exception of fish. Although the word is not commonly used and a pescatarian is not technically a vegetarian, more and more people are adopting this kind of diet, usually for health reasons or as a stepping stone to a fully vegetarian diet. Pescetarians often believe that moderate consumption of fish or fish oils, which are high in Omega-3 fatty acids, is necessary for optimum health, although vegetarian alternatives, such as flax seed oil, are available.

Some people use it to indicate that they eat no meat other than fish. It is not considered to be a "vegetarian" diet.
