I am having a party for my sister who is turning 16. She hasn't had a party in two years and I want to throw her a good party to make up for lost time. It is a disco themed party. I am considering getting martini glasses and serving juice concoctions in them. Do you parents out there think you would approve your child drinking juice out of a martini glass at a celebration? There will be no alchohol, no tolerance policy, it will be only 20-30 kids so I am not trying to throw her a big, crazy party. Just a nice disco sweet 16. With martini glasses . Ok or not?

If anyone complains about the shape of a glass, they're clearly ready for the looney bin.

The kids will feel more grown-up without the risk and legal liability.

Go for it !! And, don't forget the garnish - orange slices, maraschino cherries, frozen grapes, etc.

I think you shouldn't do it because it's introducing the idea that you need alcohol at a party to have fun. They can have just as much fun with regular glasses. Many kids of this age already have drinking problems so you don't want to encourage the idea of alcohol in any way.

As a parent, I would find it inappropriate.

Not a problem at all. Lots of places let kids drink real alcohol by that age, but I could certainly understand why that would be a problem, especially under the guidance of another parent.

I think if someone has a problem with non-alcoholic drinks in a traditional alcohol glass, they have deeper issues than that.

As long as there's zero booze in them, why not? They'd probably get a kick out of the idea. It'd be even more fun if you garnish them appropriately - like using a chunk of pineapple and a cherry on a fancy toothpick.

I think it would be terrific.
I have two teenaged girls
This will make the girls feel grown up - very sophisiticated.
It's great fun and you are being very responsible and caring making sure that they only have fruit juice based drinks.

but be warned. I can just bet that somebody is going to try and smuggle spirits in, in one of their handbags. being teenagers, they just have to try. so be alert and forewarned.

That being said, have a great evening.

Happy New Year from Sydney Australia :-)

No I don't think there is anything wrong with the martini glasses, the idea sounds like fun and yes, I'm a Mom.
