Bronchitis is an inflammation of the tissue that lines your respiratory passage. It is the result of an excessive mucus build up in the respiratory tree. As the mucus builds up, a chemical reaction in the body responds to the increase in airway resistance and gas exchange by increasing permeability in the capillary wall of respiratory cells. This, in turn, results in a spasm of the terminal branches of the respiratory tract.

Often times, bronchitis is a non-fatal result of an infection. Antibiotics or antivirals with supplement corticosteroid treatment is often prescribed with little complications. However, there are times when a person is diagnosed with chronic bronchitis. Commonly smokers have decreased their ability to move air in and out of their lungs to the point that their lungs simply spasm in result of excess mucus production; hence, bronchitis.

Fortunately, bronchitis itself is not contagious. Again, the underlying condition, commonly and infection of some sort, is infectious. It is important to remember to cover your mouth when you cough; not cough into your hand, rather, your shoulder or sleeve; wash your hands often; and drink plenty of water while ill.

I hope that answers your question adequately. If you would like more information, I can most definitely provide it...

Sincerely,

John

I once suffered from Chronic Bronchitis. I would suffer sometimes 3 to 4 times per year! Usually when there was a major change in the pressure outside (I live in the north, and the temperature spikes and dips do wonders to chronic sufferers of bronchitis!). Each time I would get horrible hacking coughs, hoarking up green phlegm..it was so frustrating!

The key to getting rid of your bronchitis is to find a way to completely eliminate the germs that are causing all the phlegm and irritation leading to your hoarking cough and heavy breathing. Keep reading to learn how to do kill these germs!!

This page it will change your life and make you feel 100% better within just 24 hours!

Acute bronchitis is caused by a viral secretion (after a cold in other words) and causes overproduction of mucous and coughing. It may last several days or weeks. If the virus is still active it is contagious and it would rarely be fatal unless it developed into something else. If there is fever for 4-5 days or a lot of wheezing and difficulty breathing, or you cough up blood you might want to see a doctor.

Bronchitis is an acute or chronic inflammation of the membrane lining of the bronchial tubes, caused by respiratory infection or exposure to bronchial irritants, as cigarette smoke.

Well if taken care of, no it is not fatal. But do be careful because bronchitis can turn into pneumonia.

As far as being contagious, it can be, espectially if you are caughing a lot.

inflammation of the bronchioles in your lungs -- little tubes that air passes through to mix with blood. it is not fatal, but can lead to pneumonia which can lead to death if serious enough or mixed with other heart problems such as CHF. contagious, no, but the virus that starts bronchitis is contagious, so yes.
