Yes. Rats share a number of diseases with humans as do cats, dogs, pigs, chimps, etc.
Perhaps least known is that rats also get the plague and die from it just like we do. Black rats have been much despised throughout history for carrying the bubonic plague (the "Black Death") which can commonly have a 'pneumonic' or lung infection component. Rats got the plague from their specific fleas. Given the choice, rats prefer to be clean animals and would rather not have fleas.
I assume you have a pet rat as my son did. She was a brown and white Norway rat who lived about two years (normal for rats). This was one of the nicest and cleanest pets we had while my son was small.

Uhh probably.. They do have lungs.
