Is it a sign of a pending heart attack or just a message from the body telling you to exercise more, quit smoking, and watch the caffeine intake? I ask this because my best friend gets flutters and irregular heartbeats from time to time and she's too paranoid to go to a doctor. Thanks!

first you need to go to the doc and find out whats causing the palpatations. they may not even be palpatations. you will need several tests like an ekg ( a tracing of the electrical activity of the heart).this is painless and takes 5 min. or less. caffeine causes a lot of palpatations as well as smoking, so definitely cut down on both. palpatations can lead to more serious problems, so get it checked out. good luck.

I'd say go see the doctor. It's the best choice..

It also matters what comes along with the palpatations. It can mean that there is some sort of problem with in the heart that you've h ad for a while but has suddenly shown. It doesn't mean that you should exercise more, quit smoking, or watch the caffeine intake. It's a thing that your body has had for a while.

When I had my first palpatations(3 months ago), I went to the emergancy room right away only to find out they had to chemically revert me back from 230 bpm to the normal range around 90 bpm. Thanks to that, I found out I had AVNRT (Atrioventricular Nodal Reentry Tachycardia), and I got it all fixed up.

this could be a sign of a heart arrhythmia which is very dangerous but then it also could be something that might happen every once in a while It's best to listen to your body. And if it does not go away after a few days then it is best to go to a heart doctor to make sure that it is nothing serious. Also yes it is important to not smoke, drink in moderation because both of these things can cause a bad heart. And leave the caffeine alone. I hope that your friend feels better soon and God Bless You.

My mom had heart palpatations for a few years, but she dosent now. She hooked herself up to an EKG (shes a nurse) and she saw them, but all they made her do was cough. Its safe to tell the doctor but its nothing to serious to worry about.

does not hurt to get your heart checked several times a year and even the clinics has free check ups at times or around the health department no excuse for not getting getting checked even in some drug stores they have a machine without a doctor.

Palpitations could be nothing, but they also could be something serious like a thyroid condition. She should go to a doctor.

may be nothing, just anxiety or smt, and if it's only momentarily, I don't think there's nothing to worry about... if it's right after she climbs a flight of stairs, she may have to exercise a little more...
