Blood pressure measurements don't count for anything if you've been walking around. Ideally, you should be sitting down for at least 5 minutes or so. Blood pressure also can vary during the day, so it's best to get measurements from similar times during the day. No caffeine in the morning either. These measurements should be repeated on a few separate occasions. Some people get "white coat hypertension" when they go to the doctor's office because they are nervous. Probably blood pressure medicines wouldn't kill you. But you don't necessarily need blood pressure medicines if your blood pressure is only high while active. When doctors study the effects of high blood pressure, they study the effects of people who are diagnosed with it as described above. You are probably at no higher cardiac risk from your blood pressure.

175:103 is bad. Was this taken when you were relaxed, or had you just run up the stairs? If this is a relaxed reading, you need to see a doctor straight away. Cutting down on alcohol and salt are both likely to help, but you need medical help to get things within manageable limits.

The three main things that will help to lower blood pressure are being no more that your ideal weight, taking regular vigorous exercise and reducing salt. All of these take many months to have any effect at all. Also unfortunately although they do help, I have never seen anyone with established hypertension avoid treatment, even if they stick to these rules. This means that if your blood pressure is regularly at this level you will not avoid medication. Keep attending your GP who will check your pressure regularly and be sure to follow his advice!

Your BP will go down if you stop these things, but you don't have that much time.
First, get your BP checked again. See if it's about the same or lower. If the same or higher, contact your doctor ASAP.
You did not say how much alcohol daily - but if it's over one drink EVERY day, yes that is a big problem.
Salt is the biggest contributor to high BP besides stress and diseases.

If your blood pressure is that high you need to go straight to the hospital NOW! You are in serious danger of a stroke.
Your second reading should be under 90....

I'm no expert but I think it will take months rather than weeks, but you better get your pressure down ASAP or you'll be looking at a stroke & many years of disability. Sorry!
I got some herbal therapy from a Chinese Medical practice but it was expensive. I also take the cholestoral reducing yogurt drinks.
