Check out www.vegdc.com for vegetarian and veg-friendly restaurants. You can also order a printed guide by going to www.cok.net. And you are very wise not to have a car! You can plan your trips by going to www.wmata.com

Some of my favorite places:

Java Green (www.javagreen.net). An ecocafe with Korean-inspired cuisine. They're near the Farragut West station on the Orange and Blue lines or the Farragut North station on the Red Line. My favorite dish is the Chicken Rice Bowl.

Nirvana is on K Street between 18th and 19th streets. It's just around the corner from Java Green. Delicious vegetarian Indian cuisine. Beautiful setting. Most of the dishes are vegan or can be veganized. My boyfriend and I always get good service there.

Sticky Fingers Bakery (www.stickyfingersbakery.com). An all vegan bakery and cafe. It's about a block and a half north of the Columbia Heights Metro station on the Green Line. It's across the street from a Giant supermarket. They have prepared sandwiches, prepared entrees, veggie dogs, chili, "cheese" sauce, and all sorts of yummy baked goods.

Harmony Cafe. Not all veg, but almost anything on the menu can be veganized. They're in Georgetown, so no Metro station, but you can catch the 38B or ride the Circulator bus to M Street and Wisconsin Avenue and walk about three blocks. It's right past the Annie Creamcheese vintage shop and near Jinx Proof tattoos. It's a little hard to find, as it's a basement-level place, but the food is good, and the prices are very reasonable for DC.

Vegetable Garden (www.thevegetablegarden.com). In Rockville in a shopping center across the street from the White Flint Metro station (Red Line). They've added a few new dishes to the menu, one of which I must try. If you're really hungry, check out the super dinner combo.

Sunflower Vegetarian Restaurant (www.crystalsunflower.com). They have a location at Seven Corners, which is not near a Metro station, but you can catch a 4 bus (I think it's A and B, but I'm not sure) from the Rosslyn Station (Orange and Blue lines). It's about a 20-minute ride. Their "Fried Chicken" (mushrooms and chunks of soy protein battered and fried and served with a spicy ketchup) is not to be missed.

Hope you enjoy your stay!

you are going to be able to desire to comprehend the city in the previous you open a eating place. I stay in Winnipeg, Canada and that's a city it extremely is ordinary for having an mind-blowing style of vegetarians/vegans. we've 3 powerful vegetarian eating places right here, and an mind-blowing style of eating places that have a separate veggie menu. bear in mind that maximum powerful vegetarian eating places are Asian vegetarian. there is a few thing approximately that form of food that works so nicely with veggie "meat" products, like veggie pork and chicken and shrimp and duck and so on.
